aftermarket tranny x member opinions

I bought one of those "Performance" Square tubed x members from GMC Pauls for my transmission thinking it might be beneficial with my new 421SBC installation.

However sizing it up today for installation I find it is around 1/2 inch to short between the frame rails and the bolt holes do not line up, plus it is not centered for the tranny mount. It is a nice heavy piece however it does not quite match the pic on the website as well......

Now i am thinking of just putting a few welds on my factory x member to reinforce the rivets and then just painting and reinstalling. What do you guys think??
Any benefit over the stock piece for performance and strength????

Re: aftermarket tranny x member opinions

Can't help you too much with the tranny crossmember. I took out an IFS (Ingenuity Fab and Speed) crossmember that worked well that the previous owner installed (they have been out of stock for a new one for a while now), and installed a TW Fab one which is remarkably beefy (and everything lined up perfectly).

What are the details on the 421 your building?! I've been kicking around that idea myself as well!

See if GForce makes one for the C10. I got one of theirs in the Chevelle.

I bought a deluxe short-block from Nyes Racing in Muncie,In comes with a Dart SHP block, Eagle rotating assembly, SRP Pistons 10.5:1 , comp cam 237/246 520/530 lift with 113 LSA .
and I am waiting on a set of heads from Eric Weingartner out of oklahoma. His 195 profilers ported out to 213 CC .

I wanted to go down on the duration slightly around 233/241 and have a 112LSA but Pat McCreery said his cam grinder can not get roller cores. Normally they have Erson custom grinds. So he finally found me a on the shelf comp piece

Re: aftermarket tranny x member opinions

I'd buy it if I needed one for my C10. The one in my Chevelle fits like a glove and the 3" exhaust goes right through it.

Pull the rail in with a ratchet strap.
The oem frames are super flexible.
And move a bunch

I am shooting for 550 Torque, I told Pat i was not concerned about the HP . If you get the TQ numbers up the HP will follow suit. And I do not really plan on taking it higher that 5800RPM's

Have you talked to GMC Paul's about this? Confirm you got the right part?
