Dealership Decals, lets see what your truck has.

As I was looking at the faded decal spot on my cowl, I thought I would check to see what you guys...and girls, have on you truck.

This is what I can make out depending on how the light hits it.

I just have a metal SMP Saskatoon emblem on one I had. I'll PST a picture if I can find it tomorrow. I used to go down to Indian head once in a while. Been a long time. Brings back some memories.

Re: Dealership Decals, lets see what your truck has.

I have a chrome emblem from Hicks Bros I had on my '72 for a while. Hicks is my last name and when I saw more than one for sale I bought two and gave my brother one. I have one other just for fun... Dick Handy. I dunno, my warped mind found humor in that name. Oh, and one other from the local dealership when it was named Key Chevrolet, after Francis Scott Key who was local to my area. I'd have to dig them out for pictures, which I'd do if I knew where to start!

Re: Dealership Decals, lets see what your truck has.

I have a Felix the Cat decal, I bought from a vendor. I once saw my build sheet, before it disintegrated and shredded itself. I put the pieces in an envelope, like a jigsaw puzzle, for later reconstruction, but lost the envelope. But Felix Chevrolet of Los Angeles was the dealer who sold my '68 C/10 Stepside. Have not mounted the decal yet. It's an inside-the-windshield type.

This dealership has been gone for 40 years and it took me a fair bit of hunting to locate this.

How do they pronounce Buena Vista around there? Do they say Boona Vista? Just curious because that's how they say it around Buena Vista, VA

Have that very same diecast emblem on the trunk of my restored '71 Chevelle. I know it did not come from there but I did a lot of growing up in Wichita, Ks. which is 30 miles north of my present home. I n the mid to late 60's Quality Chevrolet was THE place to go to drool over the new cars and trucks. My wife's cousin was a parts guy there for years and he was my GO TO guy for finding some obsolete parts for my Chevelle. Have another Quality emblem for my restored '71 4x4 but have not yet mounted it. Where exactly is that emblem mounted on the 67 4x4? Can you post a pic of it for reference? Will post a pic later of the one I had mounted on my Chevelle during the paint and body process.

Like the rest of the English language-we murder it: byoo-na vista...and as for Mr. Big Volume...in the end he "heard" a lot of law suits for unscrupulous business practices. If you're interested in the fall of a giant:

https://jalopnik.com/exclusive-insid...et-the-5056225

Bill Heard was such a huge and omnipresent thing in and around Columbus. Their media presence was as outsized as the Mr. Big Volume moniker. Thinking back on it now, I don't know why or how, but even as a kid I had an awareness that it wasn't a place that was easy to deal with or that a fair deal could be had.

This truck is a ‘70 3/4 ton, and was bought new at Bill Heard. It was used as a plumbing truck in Columbus it’s whole life. I bought it from the original owner’s son.

Not a detail shot but the metal dealer emblem was affixed to the tailgate of my k20. I’ve still got it and was lucky enough to stumble onto a NOS example on eBay. I haven’t yet decided whether or not to bolt the new one into place.

Re: Dealership Decals, lets see what your truck has.

Pic of the Quality Chevrolet dealer emblem affixed to my Chevelle during the paint / body process. Chevelle not originally from Quality but just brings back a warm fuzzy of all the cars and trucks I looked at and lusted for when the dealership was in business back in the day. Lone pic of the Quality emblem is a really nice example I found at a swap meet for a $10 bill and just couldn't pass it up. Like DeadheadNM, I just have to bring myself to the point of drilling holes in the body after all the rust and repair work went thru on the truck. Now at least I know where to put the emblem when I decide to do such. Thanks for the pic of that 67 4x4. Beautiful truck. Added a pic of the Chevelle and my 4x4 to this for reference.

Story goes my truck was sold in Denver to pilot that lived in or moved to Portland Oregon. The Trans Western Air Line parking decal is still on the windshield. Not sure when it made its way to British Columbia.

Re: Dealership Decals, lets see what your truck has.

I know lots of folks just hate when dealerships affix their name on a vehicle. But everyone needs to remember that there was a time when people actually liked or even loved the dealership they bought from. In those days they probably used a well designed and manufactured metal name plate. Those same emblems today are treasured momentous and prominently displayed. Photo is of one I removed from a Porsche I bought back in mid 80’s. I thought it was to nice not to hang on to. Only when dealerships started using unscrupulous tactics to sell vehicles did people start getting crazy about the dealerships name being on their car or truck....

Re: Dealership Decals, lets see what your truck has.

There were regional variations in dealer monikers too. For example, I see a lot of vintage CA dealer license plate frames but elsewhere it seems like metal or decals are typical. The Chevy dealers in Albuquerque back in the day(Galles and Ed Black's) made use of decals and front license plates. I'm still searching for the period correct dealer plate for my Blazer (Harloff Chevrolet Encinitas, CA).

My GMC was sold new from Lynch Cadillac Buick GMC in LaGrande Oregon. It still has the original license plate and metal dealerships frame...
