Cool '71 GMC Longhorn

I was just gonna sell this truck without working on it, but I'm starting to think I'll fix a few things first. So I might as well share in a thread. It's a 1971 GMC C2500 Longhorn. I guess that makes it a fairly rare truck being GMC and 133in wheelbase. It drives nice, and it's definitely a cool ride. People also seem to like the dark green/white color combo.

It had a crate engine installed a few years back and runs well. I think it needs valve cover gaskets because I can smell a little burning oil when driving. AC is converted to 134a and works, but under dash ductwork needs to be replaced. I have a new green dash pad for it.

The only real issue it has is the bed floor. Someone welded in diamond plate, rhino-lined it, and let the wood floor rot away. This seems like a huge project to repair correctly, but I might try to make it better than it is.

Nice looking truck. I’m partial to the GMC’s.

Re: '71 GMC Longhorn

It was non-op for a couple years, and when I backed it into my driveway I noticed a puddle of gasoline appeared from a fuel leak! There was a lot (like 12 feet) of old dry fuel line running from the in-cab tank and the two saddle tanks to a selector valve below the driver's seat by the door. It was looped around the frame all sloppy and hanging down six inches below anything else on the truck! I abandoned the saddle tanks and valve, and put a new fuel filter below the stock tank. Safe to drive again.

Project two is cleaning some thread cutting oil off the wheels. Previous owner said cats were spraying on the tires/wheels and this was his solution. Lacquer thinner worked, but it was quite a mess. One wheel down, three to go.

It looks like it's in great shape! Not much rust, straight body, decent paint from what I can see. Is the rear bumper factory?

Re: '71 GMC Longhorn

I took the truck out for lunch today and stopped at the park to eat. The wheels are all cleaned up now and light was good, so I got a few photos.
