Anyone seal up there cab corner after replacement?

As you can see in the pics, this is my personal cab that I did a new full pan and corners on. There is a gap on the bottom side which I know will let a lot of road noise in.

I kind of like it being open for the sake of drainage (if any water does get in there). On the last cab I did, I closed that up partially. Im thinking about closing it from the top inside the cab, wondering what others have done.

Need some ideas. This has been a to-do for over a year. thx!

I made a "can catcher" piece to fill the void and prevent stuff from falling down into the cab corner. I then sealed it from the top using a few strips of sound deadening material.

Re: Anyone seal up there cab corner after replacement?

Mayco, I always use seam sealer in that bottom area to keep dust and water out. However, I have been told to leave a small hole in case water needs to get out. I never listened to that advice. Just want to keep it out in the first place.

Assembly manual (for what is is worth) shows seam sealer compound is placed in that area. 59F as shown.

Glad to see you are back at it. I enjoy you YouTube videos.

I looked into my truck and I see empty space (not rusted). Don't know why; guess I'll fill it up. Probably be quieter when I'm done.

Re: Anyone seal up there cab corner after replacement?

Thanks for the comments. Been pretty crazy as usual.

Have not had much time for the truck, been planning a large shop extension that will hopefully finish this summer. Then I can have space to work... Unfortunately because of my local zoning codes they are only going to let this shop be 60' in length so if I expand anymore I have to build a separate building.

Still trying to make up my mind on the corners.

Re: Anyone seal up there cab corner after replacement?

I’m the guy that has messaged you a few times on FB. This is what I was referring to when I mentioned the cab corner being welded to the floor on the bottom. Some people are telling me it is supposed to be pulled over to the floor and spot welded and others say the gap is factory. I notice the assembly manual picture above says seam seal, but my manual also shows three spots on the bottom edge. I don’t even think my corner can reach the floor, and if it can, it would take an awkwardly tight clamp to hold it. Thoughts?

Re: Anyone seal up there cab corner after replacement?

There is a really good write up on this site - which of course I cannot find for the life of me, now - on the locations (and reasons) for the various cab drainage holes. It was pretty recently, maybe the author will chime in. It explained a lot.

It is one of the reasons why I have come to realize that it is generally best to assume that if the GM engineers put it there, maybe it would be best to leave it there. I am doing my own cab corners soon and I and intend to coat the heck out of the interior of the cab corner with rubberized rock guard or some other protective coating: but leave a drain hole. I might try your idea of partially closing the top, but I would leave enough room to access or inspect the interior. Just my 2 cents.
