Longhorn emblems were on the rear fender panels just ahead of the rear side marker light.

My longhorn has those holes too. The Longhorn was originally aimed at a booming slide-in camper market. Many used a shock absorber that attached from the cowel to the camper to keep those large campers from rocking from front to back. This system was popular during that time. I remember seeing many of them. Old--- it is good for something!!!!!

Take it to the bank Mail and Fast. I know that is what they did. I too wondered how they did any good tied to sheet metal but remember they were shock adsorbers. They didn't hold the camper up. They just adsorbed the pitch and roll. Some other old timer will surely remember these?

CPNE, I'd like a pic of that.
I don't doubt it, it actually seems like a good idea. Just I never seen the holes, nor heard of it. Very interestin.

take this from an 'old timer' my Longhorn was set up with a cabover camper when new and it had the shocks for the camper mounted into the cowl also. There are pieces of square sheet metal screwed there now. Just a reminder that the first (68?) Longhorns had the badge mounted OVER the rear side marker lights. Also keep a close watch on your badges since the glue will get dried out in time and the badges can fall off.
