Question about heat and cam bearings - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I just picked up the block (SBC) from the machine shop and had it bored, line honed, 0 decked, and had new cam bearings installed.
The owner has this idea of powdercoating the block. The machinist says the 400 degree heat could melt the new cam bearings. Anyone have any experience with this. Will 400 degrees for 20 mins hurt the new bearings. I think the machinist was more concerned with powder getting on the freshly machined surfaces, which the powder coater has assured me it won't happen. Any suggestions would be a great help

Just to be safe to prevent warpage on the thinner materials i would make sure the freeze plugs and cam bearings werent in the block when it was heated. I dont know if it would actually melt the bearings but i wouldnt trust using them afterward

I wouldn't tempt it. Their cheap.

I'd paint it , all the race engine builders i know paint them,

Had this wild idea about powder coating the block in the same chrome that we did on the tunnel ram. We will probably just paint it back base coat/clear coat with the same red that is on the truck. bc/cc looks great on an engine. Held up really well too.
