CV Joint
The CV joint is leaking at the joint where there are like five or six bolts. This is the inboard end of the CV Joint. There doesn't appear to be a replace gasket for sale. Does it use the anaerobic sealant instead of a gasket? Can you remove the bolts lower it down and use the sealant or gasket without removing the CV joint? The boots are good, no problems.....it just leaks.
Just replaced the Power Steering Pump because it was leaking badly. I found out that it had the option of the Power Steering Fluid Cooler. That is a joke, three coils of steel line about four inches long inside the frame rail. I figured this out when the new line was not going to work. I thought they sent one of the wrong lines, but they sent the line for the standard configuration (without the hokey cooler). 1996 K1500 Manual Transmission and Transfer Case Thanks for any information. |

Re: CV Joint
This board has really slowed down. A few years ago there would be lots of responses, now a lot of threads get zero reply's.
I will answer my own questions. In case that it might help others with a same leak. The truck is actually leaking on the right front axle seal. The contact surface where the CV bolts on does not have a gasket or sealant. The seal is in the end of the axle housing, and can be replaced by removing the axle housing. The CV joint does not need to be removed from the truck to replace the seal. |
