Update on 1971 4x4 build

Well, computer is not letting me upload the photos that were taken today so i will just update you on it.

First off, get the rear u bolts and they are in places and tight.. QUESTION, for the rear u bolt bolts... do they need to be torqued down or just tight??

got the rear leaf springs back on with all new bushings and shackles.

also worked on the front leaf springs, got those off, all the old bushings out. and put all new bushings and new shackles also.

Trying to get it down to the sand blaster. Suppose to be this weekend (sunday) but its not going to make i dont think. I need to get get the front leafs on, and find a trailor. It might make it but its a time crunch. I don't want to rush it and not get it the best i can.

I seem to recall 120ft lbs as the torque number, but the spring shop people said get them as tight as I possibly could.

I found that mine were pretty loose, had crappy nylock nuts and they ground grooves in the axle tubes

ok. right now they are just tighten a little with the impact.

well guys, we worked on it today again.. Fighting the iowa heat and no wind but we kept on working. Got the front springs on. Got someone coming to the shop sunday morning to weld on the rear cross member support. He is from J & J welding in Mason City iowa (great group of guys there). He will do this in the shop for us. Anyways... have one more brace to get fixed. I think it will be ready to get that baby clean!! Keep me motived guys...
