Pie Crust Air Cleaner on a 350?

I want this style Air Cleaner on my 350 that’s in my ‘66 C10. Has anyone ever modified one to fit a Rochester Qjet carb?

I bet it’s been done before but I’d like your suggestions and maybe pics of one that someone modified.

Thanks,
Michael

I cut the base off one air cleaner and welded to another style..I tacked it in several places and used seam sealer to fill the gap..

Re: Pie Crust Air Cleaner on a 350?

A friend of mine here locally has a nice 2bbl version of a pie crust air cleaner. It’s in nice condition and he only wants $20 for it. Just wondering how close a 4bbl version would come to working on a Qjet before I modify a 2bbl?

You can get adaptors for the smaller neck 4bbl carb to a quadrajet. Just flip them over and use a riser. You might need a riser to raise the adaptor slightly to clear linkage if needed.

Here's how mine was done. Just some sheet metal formed into a tube, welded together, then trial fit until it cleared the HEI dizzy I have. If I decide to run a spacer under the carb, I'll probably cut the air cleaner base down some. Still looks fairly factory in my opinion though.

There's been a ton of changes under the hood since these pics

Re: Pie Crust Air Cleaner on a 350?

A slice of 5" exhaust pipe from a semi shop will work well. Just like cw's...cut the hole until the tube slides in it, sit the tube on the carb & figure how high you need the base to to clear everything by a 1/4", draw a line around it, cut it off & weld 'er up! Lorne
CW, Thats a nice neat job!

I can't take the credit for my air cleaner. Member Jrusk welded it up for me before I bought my welder.

I am planning on changing it up a little bit in the next couple of weeks though. I'll post a pic once I do the thing
