Re: 72 Cheyenne Build Thread

That is a phenomenal looking truck you've got. Nice work.

All of you guys with these build threads are killing me, my '67 hasn't made any documentable progress in three years. Though that's going to change this summer....I hope.

Re: 72 Cheyenne Build Thread

BOY, can I relate to the "slow build". I haven't driven this thing on the street since 97 and it sat for about 4 years before I started tearing it apart.

Thanks!

Re: 72 Cheyenne Build Thread

The idea I had, some like it some don't...on the door panels you can get the wood to match your wheel and have a cabinet shop or do it yourself (cut a piece to fit the lower part of the door) 1/4" stuff is all you really need. I have also thought of using stainless or alluminum, just depends on your taste. I'd like to have those wheels when your done with 'em too....

Re: 72 Cheyenne Build Thread

Got my Shroud w/ fans all done. The fans are out of a late model Merc Sable and got em at the local Pick N Pull for $20. Figured out the shroud in CAD and let a friend bend it up for me...turned out a little short on the top but I'm gonna get one of those radiator covers you can buy from one of the venders.

The Spal fan controller will vary the speed of one fan up to 100% as temp increases and then kick on the other fan. The temps are all programmable.

Beautiful job thus far! I love the color and build quality. One question what amount of drop are you at now and what type did you use?

Re: 72 Cheyenne Build Thread

I got to tell ya, that is one bad azz looking truck. Awesome fab work, color choice and motor choice. Your truck might just be my next dream scheme.

Trucks like this are what motivate a lot of us Marines sitting here in the shop when there is not much to do. We've all drooled over this projuect. Please keep the pics coming and keep up the beautiful work.

Re: 72 Cheyenne Build Thread

68C-10

Thanks!

I'd like to get the top of the tires just inside the upper lip of the fenders. I bought the complete lowering kit from SoLow Suspension up in (I believe Oregon) back in the early 90's. I don't know if they are around any longer, but at the time they were just about the only one offering suspension components for these trucks. The kit came with stepped (factory) A arms and lowered spings and front (big) and rear sway bars. The components have always worked well and I see no reason to change unless I wanted to go to bags.

Thankyou!....and more than that...thanks to you and all your comrades for watching this country's back...at least as much as our weak @ss government will let you!!!! (sorry..didn't mean to get political!)

Re: 72 Cheyenne Build Thread

Wow! Your truck is beautiful. I've never been able to explain everything that I wish I could do to my truck someday, until I saw yours! I can't wait to get out of Iraq so I can get back and start working on my truck. Next time I start slacking on my project I'm going to check out your thread again for some motivation. Can't wait to see the final pictures, WOW!

Re: 72 Cheyenne Build Thread

Little more progress....

Got the moldings on.....Took FOREVER..bet I have 10 hours getting em just the way I wanted. Grinding, tweaking, grinding.....to get them as close to the body as possible. They came with clips with white dbl sided tape that I hated, so I reused the factory clips and some thinner tape. I also had to grind the edges of some of the molding here and there to get em to fit right....and that fricken cab corner piece is crap!....but ya gotta make the best of what you have.

Had the front fenders off and on 3 times.....first to get to the back "CHEYENNE" emblem stud, and then to get to the door mldg front stud, and THEN back off again to grind that same stud down to clear the door hinge!!

Side and vent window back in and associated seals. mirrors, door handles, cowl.....Hell, I spent 4 hours today just gettin the cowl back on and fitting like I wanted....something is wrong with me!

Still loving those wheels. Do a super clean up on the wheels and tires before you put on your final ones...take a pick like that. I would like to see it.

Re: 72 Cheyenne Build Thread

Thanks guys.

CG.....funny you should say that about the wheels.....I am truly having a HUGE struggle wih what wheels to put on. I like the vintage look and the cast center look and have been leaning towards Grey center Coys, but I just wanna be a little different (as we all do) than the rest. I'm seriously thinking about the same wheels in 17".

I did a quick photoshop with bigger ones and lowered the truck a little.

What do you think?

Re: 72 Cheyenne Build Thread

That thing is looking ridiculous. I bet you can't wait to finish it. I would be up all night for a week straight trying to get mine finished if I was that close. I say go with big billet wheels. Can't go wrong! With all of the time and money spent on the body and motor don't short yourself in the wheel department.

Re: 72 Cheyenne Build Thread

Thanks 72CSTC5!...I'm gettin closer...and believe me..I'm putting in the hours on this thing. The fiance (maybe soon to be EX...LOL) has NO clue the time involved. She sees it like it is now and thinks I should be done with it tomorrow!!

You hit the nail on the head.....That's the struggle......though I really love the "down to business" look of cast wheels, I tend to think it may "cheapen" the overall look of the truck.

If I go billet it would probably have to be Vintecs.

Your truck is going to look great no matter which wheel choice you go with. I wish I had a ride I could put your 200s wheels on, I would offer to buy em from you.

Outstanding truck for sure - love the fan setup! Those rims are sweet - 17" would be fine but I'd stick with that look if it were me.
