Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super 20 on the way home

Looking good! Hopefully you get that carb soon and it doesn’t get hung up anywhere.

Your seat cover looks to be in fantastic shape. I have the same color interior in my truck but my seat cover has been replaced who knows when.

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super 20 on the way home

thank you sir,i have been watching the tracking on the carb.it was in Halifax on Thursday,(3 hours away)so i hoped maybe i'd see it Friday, checked the tracking on Friday,it was in Sydney,Nova Scotia,(about 6 hours away???) and then they wonder why the post office loses billions every year?oh well, there's always Monday and i have lots to do,it's all good.i put a little something in the mail for you, maybe they'll send it to Nevada first?who knows, anyway it's on the way.my seat cover is in good shape but there is a split on a seam on the drivers side.i think i'll take the seat over the winter to the guy who did most of the interior in my 67 wagon and see if he can make a new panel or fix it,might just be as cheap to buy a new seat cover if i want it fixed,we'll see.take care, thanks.

Haha, yeah I had to overnight something for work and it jumped on a plane and skipped over my state and then was driven back.

If you end up replacing the seat cover I’ll buy the original if you want to let it go. My theme for my truck is “correct but beat up” haha.

What a gorgeous truck Greg. I am so glad you rescued it. Only wish I'd found it first LOL.

Best of luck finding the carb. I know they are out there but sometimes the search seems to take forever. I will be following this one.

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super 20 on the way home

just a little update.i have a carb in the mail somewhere,it was 3 hours away according to the tracking,in Halifax,Nova Scotia at the main post office, last Thursday.it should have been here overnight for Friday but no,it went to the Sydney,NS post office,6 hours away, where according to tracking, sat there til Monday this week.the next time i checked tracking,it was back at the main post office in Halifax?i went to the local post office today, the lady looked up the tracking number for me and at nearly 5:00 pm today,it was back in Sydney??no wonder it was $93.00 for the mail.$20.00 for mail,$73.00 for storage??it's ok,i have lots to do,the new carpet and mats arrived yesterday in the correct dark olive, maybe i'll have it installed tomorrow.i did have the cowl panel off and cleaned it all up underneath, the cowl vent flaps inside as well, cleaned and lubed everything and found a family of dead petrified mice in there.all cleaned up and good to go along with a new cowl seal, door bumpers and hood bumpers that i have yet to install.i have a pair of new door seals that i should install when i do the carpet but the doors close so nice,i may leave the new seals on the shelf for now.i have a noisy bearing in the A/C pump to deal with yet.the transmission needs service and i have the parts here waiting for a chance on the lift and a poorly installed trans cooler to re-install neatly or remove all together and put the lines back in the rad like they should be.i don't plan to tow with the truck.i plan to replace the mufflers and tailpipes and have tailpipes sitting in Calais,Maine at my U.S address but the border is still closed so i can't go get them and all the other parts piled up there.can't last forever?the last of the restrictions related to Covid, were supposed to be lifted today here in Nova Scotia but that's pushed back now into October as the cases are going back up??better days are coming.

The Super is cleaning up Super! It really does look great. That stinks to hear about the carb. The post office is really jacked in both countries it seems. And I don't really want to go there on the Rona situation. We're just 1 right being taken away from communism but the majority here can't see it.

thanks Ryan, she's coming along and cleaning up very nice.i'm hoping to have the carpet in today and if the weather stays good, take the truck to the old car get-together in Masstown,NS on Friday evening.there's a man up the road,in his 80's who worked for GM at the Oshawa,Ontario plant since 1955 til he retired years ago and moved home.he stops in all the time to check on what i'm doing and how the truck is progressing, anyway i'm going to take him with me. i love hearing his stories and he'll get a kick out of the old cars & trucks.might even see one he had his hands on??you never know.take care.Greg

That truck is a real beauty! I noticed in the earlier post that the initials are DA. That should mean it's my truck. Do you want to drop it off here or should I come and get it?

Greg,
That paint is amazing, looks great cleaned up. As well I noticed the chrome on the vent window latch, super clean .
ON the carpet install, not that this is 'novel', but I little 'trick' I use for locating the seat bolt holes in the floorpan. Once you have the carpet positioned where you want it, find the bolt holes with an awl. Then use a (hot) solder iron, and melt through. It leaves a nice clean hole for the bolt to go through, and since it melts the carpet around the hole, there are no frays. Again, it's nothing new, but it works great...

Thanks Kevin.it is cleaning up better than I thought it might.it never had been fooled with much so almost everything is like it should be.i have used the hot poker method of making holes in carpet in the past.it does work well.since I am giving this truck to Happy Dan,do you want my wagon?have a great day.

new dark olive ACC carpet installed along with their carpeted mats, seat belts all cleaned and re-installed and new sill plates, coming together.i had it all done in time to pick up an old friend here who left this little town in 1955 to go work at the GM plant in Oshawa,Ontario and we went to the Masstown Market car show tonight in Masstown,Nova Scotia.he might have seen cars and trucks tonight that he helped build?i saw 80 or 90 pictures on Facebook already taken there tonight.tomorrow we tackle a carb rebuilt for this truck and/or mow grass.we'll see what the weatherman holds in store for tomorrow.

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super 20 on the way home

just a little update,i got ahead of myself putting up pictures of the new carpet and forgot about messing with my gas tank sender.the gas gauge didn't work so i had the sender out while the seat was out, renewed the rubber lines that join the steel lines from the sending unit to the gas lines going down the front of the tank.somebody at some point, replaced the rubber gas lines and tightened the clamps til they were almost flat?no need for 200 ft lbs on hose clamps?i found the fuel sock had just about turned to dust so i installed a new one then tested the sender in my hands, gauge worked so i put it back together, gas gauge wouldn't work??eventually i discovered the brass float had a hole in it,where it snaps into the round wire keeper,i soldered it up,good to go,we have a gas gauge.the carb that J_CST_1 sent from Ohio is here,in good shape, missing a piece of linkage,i knew that and have several here.today i dismantled it all, inspected it and have it soaking in carb cleaner.i thought i had a kit here for it but don't,i'll get one Monday and then get it back together.all good.

I had the same thing happen with the brass float in my truck. I replaced it with a plastic one, though.

yes sir.i don't know how this thing acted before but the gauge still seems a little erratic so i may get a new float and pull it back and change it,but we're good for now, erratic or not,at least i have an idea of how much gas is in there.

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super 20 on the way home

a little update.i was busy with a Jeep (not mine)needing more work that it was worth,my carb is still soaking so i was puttering with a few other projects.i couldn't get a license plate on the truck anywhere that made sense.it was on the left side of the rear bumper but the top of the plate was behind the bottom of the tailgate??the law wouldn't like that and if you opened the tailgate,it crushed the plate and tore paint of the tailgate?the step on the bumper where a trailer ball was, isn't flat or long enough for a plate so i made a bracket, bolted it to the steel plate far enough out that the plate would fit, bolted it on and re-located the license plate light.next was removing a poorly installed transmission cooler, repairing the cooler lines and put them back in the rad like the General intended.i drained the engine oil and changed the oil filter again, even though i did it a few weeks ago.no telling what's in there after 25 years of storage so i'll do a couple quickly and get her flushed out.then onto the transmission,i pulled the pan, eveything was clean,a little clutch material in the pan which is normal, changed the filter, gasket and re-installed a factory deep transmission pan that i've hung onto for 35 years or so??something wrong with me,anyway these pans were on 1 ton chassis that were turned into Grumman aluminum vans,1 ton cab & chassis and all kinds of trucks sometime in the 80's i believe.it isn't stock for my truck but it'll hold a couple extra liters of fluid and i can always put it back like it was.tomorrow i think we'll build a quadrajet.
