Oil Tester
That's what my friends dad liked to call me when I was a teenager.
My question is a simple one and I apologize if it is a dumb one. Does the 250 use the same dipstick as the 292? Or are they different lengths, and/or marked differently. My 292 didn't come with a factory dipstick, just a strand of metal that when removed would tell you if some oil was in the engine. But I think I have a 250 dipstick around here somewhere.

Re: Oil Tester
I would drain the oil and refill the crankcase with the correct known amount of oil. Then install the new or used dipstick and mark it full. If you change out the filter you'll want to start the motor to fill the filter before marking the dipstick...

Re: Oil Tester
I could measure the length of my OEM 292's dipstick...
OK. I get 14-1/16'' on the dipstick -- from the tip to just below the Cap [that the curled handle sticks out of]. The L-25 292 L6 has a unique oilpan, holding 6 quarts [including large oil filter]. 250s only use 5 quarts, have a shallower oil pan, and their block is ~1-7/8'' shorter. Don't have any 250s dipsticks to measure.
