Where to buy Vortec heads

Looking at putting vortec heads on my 350. Where is the best deal on a set of new vortec heads? Considering pulling some from the junkyard but seems like it may be a hassle because from the sound of it I may pull six before I find two good ones. Thanks.

Scoggin Dickey supposedly has good prices. I’m not sure they are GM heads but are better than stock stuff. Can get em in 225cc I think too.

They have the option of beehive springs which allows up to something like .525 lift.

The big "Vortec" heads are bowtie, and the only downside is there are iron.

Depends on what you consider downsides. They have poor low lift flow rates compared to vortecs, which with street sized cams is a big deal. Putting bowties on a stock cam engine would most likely make less power.

I remember buying my set of vortecs from Scroggin back in like 1998. $400/set fully assembled. Ahhhh the good o'l days.

Re: Where to buy Vortec heads

Blue Print makes some aluminum Vortec style heads for a reasonable price. Have no idea how good they are but they have good reviews.

You can use 88-94 swirl ports for bad flow too. Not to mention a myriad of other poor designs or smogger versions

Re: Where to buy Vortec heads

Summit also makes a reproduction iron Vortec with their own house brand for $364 each:

Also high ratings.

Re: Where to buy Vortec heads

I got mine from summit then after I found i could have got them from skogen with machine work and upgraded springs for higher lift cam

I have gotten a like new set from ebay and picked up a free express van that the po was determined the heads where blown really bad intake gasket good motor and tranny for free

The l31 had a very bad intake gasket that failed often and is most likely the cause for vortec heads to crack from overheating to many times with no antifreeze

Re: Where to buy Vortec heads

You can also make a stock vortec head take .525 lift with a cheap ls6 valve spring a special comp retainer, and a different valve seal. No machining required.
