Re: Anyone Sell Metal Glovebox Liners?

With as hard as they are to get into place, I would not think a metal one would work. At least for A/C trucks.

Thought about that! Would be difficult but not impossible. Before the thoughts of the metal one, I was thinking of taking a paper one and soaking it in Fiberglass Resin.

What has stopped me is I noticed the re-pops are covered in some type of either wax or other preservative.

Any insights with this would help. I am sure lots of folks are growing tired of that un-secure paper crap.

My question is what are you trying to carry around in the glove box? Once installed properly the liners are quite rigid and capable of holding everything I have thrown in mine. Which includes a flashlight , several maps, an old phone book, fuses, spare headlight bulb, a multitool, compass, and other stuff I'm forgetting right now.

Exactly what I mean. I have my old man's S&W highway patrolman 357 which did over 100k miles in the jockey box of his 70 with a box of shells. I would remember if it had fallen out.

You can build one. I built mine with a cardboard template then cut sheet metal.

That looks nice! Obviously not completely finished yet or maybe. Panel bonding adhesive is a thought for me.

Did you engineer yours to utilize the same screw holes?

Re: Anyone Sell Metal Glovebox Liners?

I coated mine with Raptor bed liner, mine was not coated just plain cardboard, sealed the seams with polyurethane caulk, then Raptor inside and out.

Thank you. Yes it uses the factory attachments. I made it larger than the original. Big as possible. Added steel reinforcement. The original was toasted in a fire so I had nothing to go by. Made a cardboard template then cut sheet metal.

Much thanks for the comment. I make a lot of things for these trucks but haven't brought any to market yet. If your original glove box is out, get some poster board or cardboard (not corrugated) and start making the 4 sides until they all fit. Tape them together as you go. When you have a decent cardboard mock up, cut it at the seems so its one piece, lay it onto a sheet of metal and draw it out. Leave a little extra to fold over at the bends so you can easily rivet, or bolt together.

I put a layer of rubber inside mine and then did the reinforcement ribs, drilled and bolted it together. There are over a hundred pieces of hardware in my glove box assembly (nuts, bolts washers). I like the look of bolts. My truck has a bazillion of them so I made the bolts exposed in my glove box too. It's like a small security box.

Thank you for the thought. It is a high quality build but unfortunately that was years ago and I no longer have the templates. However, if anyone would like to make on I'd gladly answer any questions they may have. (as much as I can remember anyway). The main structure is one piece. That is, the top back and bottom is one sheet, cut and bent. The two sides are separate pieces as shown in the pic. So the sheet metal is 3 pieces total.

Make a good template first, keeping the lines straight (cardboard, scissors and tape). A framing square comes in handy for making bend lines. make the main section with some extra metal at the front edges so you can double it over and have good connection points where it will bolt in. assemble the unit with minimum fasteners and push it into the glove box opening. It'll be tight but with minimun fasteners it should flex enough to push it through. Pull the unit forward into place and mark the bolt holes with a sharpie. Remove the unit, drill bolt hole a little over size and re-install.

I built steel reinforcements across the bottom, first side to side then put two more at the back (those two are 90 degree brackets). Therer is also a rib below the box which shares the bolts with the flat steel member that runs side to side (inside the box)

Apologies if that sounds confusing. I'm not real good at explaing something I did years ago, If you would like any clarification, I'll try to help.

Thank you OregonNed. I have some other projects in the works right now or I'd pull my glove box out and make a new template. Like most of my projects, it's overbuilt but I'll never need another. I'll look at making a new template when I finish the kit I'm designing as a replacement for the in-cab fuel tank behind the seat. That's a pretty cool kit too.
