65 c10 stepside build

Here is my truck as I slowly rebuild it. My dad bought this truck for me a couple years ago for my 17th birthday (First Car!). I'll try to catch you up on what I have already done.

Here is what I started with.

Re: 65 c10 stepside build

I plan to keep the exterior farely original and clean up the rust. Slight lowering 2" or so. I just bought a 350 to drop under the hood. I plan on putting a Tremec T5 behind it. I would like to update the interior a little bit. such as stereo, guages, bucket seats, etc. It's going to be my daily driver for a while.

Re: 65 c10 stepside build

Here is some pictures of what I've done lately.

Here I fixed some dents and shaved the seam on the hood.

I cut out some rust on the bottum of the fenders and cab corners. Now I'm trying to finish the bed up

Re: 65 c10 stepside build

Today I finished smoothing out the bed rails and started working on the roof. I'll post pics of that hopefully tonight. For now here is some pictures of the new motor.

I bought these style serpentine brackets, but the passenger's side bracket that holds the alternator doesn't fit. Where it mounts to the head the bolt hole isn't there. There is one hole on that head, but I'm pretty sure there should be at least two holes on that side. I heard of drilling and tapping a hole there but I don't really want to do that. Plus, I would like to come up with a different set of brackets anyway. These are pretty sore to the eye. I'm thinking of fabricating some new ones, but I have a feeling it will be harder than i expect. Any Suggestions?

Re: 65 c10 stepside build

Welcome. I like what you're doing with your truck and particularly fillilng the hood seam. Curious, are you going to fill the seam in the front fender as well?

I'm not running a serpentine system, but I am using Alan Grove brackets and see that he also offers a serpentine setup. They're not particularly pretty like the fancy billet styles, but they look much better than factory brackets and fit perfectly, and are much less expensive than polished billet .

I haven't decided yet on filling the fender seam. Really, I hadn't even thought about it till I saw done on this forum.

Thanks for the suggestion about the brackets. I'll more than likely fabricate my own, when I get the truck back to my old highschool's auto paint and body shop. I'm a little tight on money right now so I'll just make some brackets where I have access to nice tools and a nice big shop with A/C.

I know yall like pictures so here is some more of what I've done, and some of the interior. Sorry the pictures are so small.

This is what I most recently finished. I'm completely smoothing the tops of the bed rails.

I did this awhile back. My gas tank was leaking inside the cab and soaked everything in there with gas, so I put this one out back, but the gas cap was directly under that bed support. This is what I came up with.

When i was replacing the passenger side cab corner. I saw the rust had eaten it's way into the floor, so I had to rebuild that whole corner.

Cut off the brackets for the interior gas tank. These will be hidden by a custom subwoofer box that will mold into the back of the cab.

Thought you might like to see what the interior looked like.

Right now my main focus is getting the body work done on it so I haven't decided on a system yet. Probably something simple 1 10" sub and 2 6x9" speakers in the back box along with an amp, and 2 6.5" speakers in the kick panels and maybe a couple tweeters in the dash. I have a Sony kit that comes with some of that stuff and the head unit. It's not the greatest but im not goin to be doin audio competitions with it.

Haha, yes it suprised me. I don't think my parents realized what they were getting themselves into when I got that. Although, they still support my work on it, most of the time. My mom would like her garage back . Luckily my brothers and I all took the auto paint and body class at our highschool and the teacher is a family friend, so during the school year I move the truck up there. It makes it alot easier to get something like this done.

Re: 65 c10 stepside build

Sorry no updates lately, I ran out of sandpaper. Ordering some more today. I got kind of a dumb question, I have a couple dents on the roof and they are too deep to spread a quick coat of bondo over them. I was thinking maybe weld a stud on there and pull it out with a slide hammer, but is there any insulation or anything I would have to worry about when welding that stud on?

Here is a pic of the roof.

I don't think there is anything in that area that will cause a problem with welding a stud in those locations.
