Re: 1972 Highlander (Forum Truck)

I got my roll bar from Motorcity K5 in. Should I powder coat it satin black or gloss black?

I like satin black for the roll bar. Id have to see one done up shiny black before I gave an opinion on that.

Re: 1972 Highlander (Forum Truck)

With my past K5s with a roll bar, I have always put 2 in id padding and canvas covering. On my current 70 I'm using Ottertex to make the cover. My local Grainger store had the padding in stock cheap. My roll bar mounts behind the front seats and behind the rear wheel wells. Maybe I'm trying to be macho about it, but with the lift and larger tires the 2 in. or 1 3/4 pipe just looked small compared to the rest of the truck. Now it stands out and looks a lot more beefy.

I've never gotten a definitive answer, or found any literature on whether or not the first gen Blazers came with a factory roll bar. Does anyone know? Great Forum!!

Chris.

I’m leaning toward satin black as well. My brother is flying up here to buy a short bed project from Bill. It’s his first 67-72 and he is excited to build
one. Downside is I have to store it in my garage until he can find a shipper! Thanks Mark! Haha. I’d love to not do a roll bar but, I plan on having my daughter and wife ride with me. The pictures of these rolled over and completely flattened out makes the roll bar a necessity.

Re: 1972 Highlander (Forum Truck)

Got the blazer back home. Working on installing new trim, emblems, etc. got the 15x6 steel wheels power coated and mounted on 33x10.5 BFG’s with P01 hubcaps. Pulled the engine out for a rebuild and to detail the engine compartment. I’m having back order blues on a lot of parts. That is really slowing me down in certain areas.

I got the lower side trim installed. I decided to go with the kit from motor city k5. I heard there was not much difference between there’s and the mark-k kit. I have to say the fit bit was spot on so I’m happy with it. I peeled the sticky tape off the clips and installed 3M double sided molding tape.

That is a beautiful K5. The last time I installed trim I used the clips and holes. Does the trim sit flush or is there a gap from the plastic anchor piece? What brand was the trim?

Thank you! The last time I replaced body moldings was on my 1970 K10. I went with the metal clips on that one. This blazer had new door skins and bedsides so I would have had to drill holes. I’m not a fan of that as it introduces the possibility of corrosion down the line. Most newer vehicles use an adhesive tape like the 3m body side molding tape. I found if you play with the location you apply it on the clip and with the molding, it leaves a very small gap comparable to a new car molding. The cap is essentially the width of the 3m tape.

Some progress has been made but, it’s been slow going being so busy at work. Suspension front and rear almost complete. Still waiting to install the front brake lines/booster/master. The engine is almost waiting to go in but, decided to go through the entire A/C system while it’s easy to access. Did a new redhead steering box and stock height springs with an added leaf from a local spring place called Rightway spring. Same springs and machine shop I used for the Suburban I did last year that Bmdully now owns! Installed the cluster with a tach conversion. New door glass, regulators and latches. Door panels are on and the roll bar I got from motorcityk5. Rebuilt tilt column is back in as well. I detailed any clamps that were a special color back to their original color. Driveshafts we’re rebuilt by Fleetpride. I’m shooting for a new summer completion date.

I stripped everything off the chassis until the bare frame. Pressure washed and sanded it down, then applied por-15. I also am working on the radio install while I have the A/C part. Going with an original style with blue tooth. Waiting on the correct speaker that fits with the center A/C vent to come in from Classic.
