Glad its on your bucket list, then just you and me will have one! Good thing about it, it could always go back to stock, as is with all my mods. Stock is where the value is...

Go for it someday......

Thanks boneyard for 'membering

Re: Wood floor Blazer

The wood floor is on my list of favorite Blazer mods. I can't see covering it with the back seat either. But maybe bucket seats wouldn't hide it as much.

Re: Wood floor Blazer

Did you put the wood over the metal or cut the old metal bed floor out?

That was the most time consuming part, cutting 6" squares at a time. Didnt have the right tool at the time.....now i do!

Nah, nothing that severe. You have to drill every spot weld on the crossbraces, w/o damaging them, because you will still need the crossbraces for supporting the wood floor.

So, you have to cut away bed floor up to the next cross brace so you can see what you are doing and also see where the spot welds are.....Dremel makes a great new tool, that is similiar to a circular saw, and works well to cut across the corrugated bed floor

Ask all the questions you want, and i hope i have the answers

Re: Wood floor Blazer

Funny I never saw this thread before. Jaros44sr, your wood floor is the only wood floor Blazer pic I've found on the net. I'm sure more have been done. I just had a bunch of sheet metal bent up for the wood floor in my '71. As far as mounting a back seat, I plan to. As long as all the under bracing is done properly, it should be plenty safe. 3/4" quarter sawn white oak is very strong and is tied into the body very firmly with steel or aluminum bed rails and 6 5/16" bolts per rail. Factory 10 gauge steel plate that the original seat blets mounted to will be under there as well.

Re: Wood floor Blazer

I would think that if you install a rear seat and all bolts are connected to a full width uchannel cross brace you'd be fine as long as your flooring is a species with good linear grain strength like white oak or hard maple. It would take a total failure of the decking to break loose and would probably take as much or more to do that as the tear strength of 16ga steel.

That must mean it looks really bad if no one else wants to do it.....wierd

Sounds strong enough with all that structure to it

Re: Wood floor Blazer

I know the rear seat mounted in the wood seems bad but its how the 67-72 Suburban rear seat is mounted and they were all plywood even
