Re: Fuel cell

I highly recommend the aluminum tanks from Boyd Welding. You can buy them direct on their site or through AZ Pro Performance (I believe they are a sponsor here). These tanks are a bit more pricey than the retrofit steel tanks that others sell but you definitely get your money's worth and the fit is perfect. They make both an EFI tank and carb tank.

As far as fuel line routing there are a few ways you can go with that. Some use hard line all the way with braided lines at each end. This is also the preferred way to do it if running EFI. I think some of the sponsors here sell a complete fuel line kit (solid + braided lines). The other route you can use is all steel braided hose run inside of the frame rails front to back which is what I've done. For me it was just easier. I've seen some trucks use only use standard fuel line but I wouldn't feel safe using only unprotected hose (that's what she said).

Re: Fuel cell

I completely agree with Ken ^^^^, if you have any aspirations of FI in the future run the braided or hard line. Mine is run up the passenger frame rail.

Any shots from behind to show how low the tank hangs?

My previous truck after removing the old tank from the cab I just spliced to the existing gauge wire and extended back to the new tank's sender.

Re: Fuel cell

You have to make sure that the sending unit in the new tank has the sane omhs as the gauge.

I believe that Speedway sells a adapter that will let you match up any OHM sending unit with a gauge. It's not cheap I think around $185.00 but might make it easier to match everything up.

Most of these tanks come with a mounting kit or as an option. I haven't installed the kit from Brothers but you may need to drill a few holes just for the mounting straps. The last tank I installed I had to remove the smaller crossmember used for the spare tire but that was as simple as drilling out the 2 rivets.

Re: Fuel cell

Grabbed my tank from an '89 Blazer (full size). 31 or 33 gallon. I think that there is a 27 as well. Routed the filler to the drivers side since the bed usually has stuff in it.

Grabbed the support straps, rock guard, and filler neck. I ran fuel injection 3/8 black hose from the tank to about the axle then 3/8 brake hard line to the FI hoses at the filter / Corvette regulator. Factory flex lines to fuel rail. I cut the sending unit off of the in cab tank and welded it to the new sending unit / pump mount and it works great with the exception that it hits the baffle at just below 1/2 full. So tank will b coming back out for adjustment to gauge sender.

Re: Fuel cell

Fat Fender Street Rods in Fontana offers a stainless tank that I run in my chassis. I made the access modification because I wanted a provision for an in-tank pump if I switch to fuel injection.

Here's what it looks like unmolested:
