Re: GM Semis

I also had the same combo in both my '62 6500 and my '67 7500. It was unique as the nice thing about it is you could go through 9 gears and only have to downshift the rear twice.

Nice looking Long Nose. If all original, looks like it's a '76.

Re: GM Semis

I recognize that 950 on the trailer. It was at an A.T.H.S. show in So. Cal. at the Orange Empire Railway Museum. It's all original and pretty solid too.

Re: GM Semis

very nice 950, driving lamps, 5-holes, spot lamp, bunk, and all.

That long nose is gor-gee-ous. I can't quite recognize that teal color as original color in the mid-70s.

That's an interesting cab on the '40-ish COE. Is it a bunk, I guess? And would that big bass drum looking thing tucked in there be the fuel tank?

I could spend the rest of they commenting on each picture. Thanks for them all!

Maybe we could throw in the possibility of a 637 V8 toro flow? Interesting practically the exact same cubes as a 636 V8 CAT ( later known as a 3208).

Re: GM Semis

Not sure about the V-8 Toro-Flow, but in '66 and '67, the V-6 Toro-Flow got the old style Emblem like the earlier years had. My '67 7500 still had that type of Emblem still on it, even though it got converted to a 6V-53. I tried finding a V-8 Toro-Flow Emblem online, but the closest one I could find was a V-8 Magnum. Interesting though. Check out some of the different Emblems here at Jolly's site:

Around here they called that a working fifth or something like that.

I kind of liked driving with a 2 speed...............until I learned better.

We just sold our last C6500, 366, 5 with a 2 speed rear because nobody could drive it.

Nice looking truck. The 6-110 is pretty rare.

Nice looking MH's above by the way.

If you didn't see a red truck, you might question your truck photo history.

Side note the green and yellow long hood posted look similar to the one I posted above.

I was wandering around Flickr & found this 7-Up delivery truck. Rather new considering it's a Topkick.

Re: GM Semis

I liked those with the Cat 3208T. No fun to work on but smooth and quiet with a great turning radius.

Did you see that one has the same paint as the one shown earlier? Must be original, which I questioned on the first one.

That and my memory of days past when I saw PIE trucks all over the roads

Not one of the newest Top Kicks, though. I always liked those soda and beer haulers, mini tractor-trailers

That's a good looking Chevy

Bob, did any Top Kicks ever get a 2-Stroke Detroit?

As usual, my knowledge doesn't go much passed '76, lol.

GMC wasn't the only one with this interesting concept, White Trucks called it a "giesel". This was a 470 cu in gas V8. One premium feature that the White engine had and the GMC gas engines did not have, was the "wet sleeve"

Sadly no. The vast majority had Cat 3208's, and a few had Detroit 8.2T's. A very few had Cummins VT-225's, that was discussed here some years ago.

That there was an idea that didn't pan out! The 'Giesel', sometimes called the 'Mustang VIII', was a small Cummins V-8 diesel modified to run on gasoline. It had lower compression pistons, spark plugs in the injector holes, and a Holley 2 bbl. carburetor. Needless to say it wasn't very efficient and sales were very low. I don't know if the engines were manufactured by Cummins or White. The Giesel was only around for a year or two.

Doesn't seem to make much sense from the get-go. What made them think going back to gas was a good idea?
