Question 700r4 - Vehicle Speed Sensor

I have a 1989 GMC Sierra C2500 5.7 liter V8 w/ a 700r4 automatic transmission.

Should the front tooth on my VSS be slightly bent and curved toward the rear tooth?

My speedometer works on and off. Sometimes the CEL light comes on for awhile and goes off too. Code 24. My truck runs smooth and shifts gears fine so I'm not sure what exactly is going on...any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
