Re: Soap on a Rope

I'd like to thank everyone for their feedback! And my Health is doing much better. Still fighting this back pain though.

Here she is with new fenders and doors. I couldn't find a happy medium to start with the aftermarket fenders so these old ones are doing the trick, just some rust holes to patch and some side mirror holes to fill.

Re: Soap on a Rope

I have a small cnc machine called an x-carve , made mostly for wood but it can cut aluminum, just very slow. I used it to make the GMC emblems for my valve cover/coil cover, then I powder coated the valve covers black and the emblems in chrome. They turned out better than the photos can show. or at least I'm happy with them.

Re: Soap on a Rope

Ah yes... that wrap is so fun to work with. I did my Jeep from the headers to the tail pipe.

Re: Soap on a Rope

Ive got the first half done. Still have the tail pipe to do. Not perfect but I don't think its possible to get this stuff perfect. I will also add the silicone coating once I pick the color. I have black already, before I noticed that it came in three colors. So Ive ordered the copper color too. I might spray out some test patches tomorrow and see what the silicone looks like and how it sprays.

I did the silver on mine and really liked how it looked... until I used my Jeep for what I built it for. Now it is just dirty, lol.

Silver wrap or silver sealer?
I used the new copper wrap and ended up using copper sealer. I tried the black sealer but it didn't cover the copper wrap so well, so I went with the copper sealer, and it looks good, but doesn't match the rest of my truck. I'm still waiting on my tail section to get welded up, so I'm waiting to install the exhaust till everything is ready and then I'll install it all at once. idk know if it will stay copper color or not...see what it looks like once its all bolted together I guess.

Re: Soap on a Rope

This is what it looks like after the sealer, kinda of a bronze color. They are darker in person.

I just couldn't leave it alone, the Bronze/Copper was cool but not for this ride.

Re: Soap on a Rope

So I ordered two cans of aluminum hi temp sealer from Thermo Tec and it fits the look Im looking for. Although one can had burst in shipping I was able to get all the copper color covered with one can and Summit Racing is going to ship me another can.

Re: Soap on a Rope

Looks good. Are you still itching from working with that stuff? I was hoping that sealing it with the silicone paint would make it not cause itching with future handling of the wrapped areas, but it really didn't help.
