Well I probaly should have done this from the start. I am just going to hyperlink the first weekend of work from on here a start anew with with this build thread.

Today we finished up tearing down the truck. The last two days was a little frustrating because all of the large items (motors, doors, tranx, and such) had been removed and it was taking a long time to remove the rest. I am going to have to replace some of the break lines becasue there were very hard to get at with the tube still on. The emergency brack will have to be replaced because it wasn't cooperating. It was nice to see it leave on the trailor but today I realized how much stuff I am going to have to buy to get this thing back togather. Brake lines, wiring harness, 700r4, water pump, door seals, tons of misc bolts and trim pieces. With my rant done I plan on getting some vendor information over the next couple of days. I need to have the gas tank coated, the drive shaft revalanced and painted. I need to find a 700r4, get the transfer case and engine cleaned and painted. The body guy said I should be able to have the frame back to me in a couple of weeks to mount all of the drive train and tubing. I now see why everyone mount the tubing before the cab goes on. Well here are a couple of picks from today.

Thats awesome man. Be like me, don't keep track of what its all going to cost, just buy the parts here and there as you can. It'll drive you nuts if you think about the total cost.

I would like to have it back on the road by June. I know that is very tight but its doable.

Cool, good plan.

I travel a fair amount down into PA and the surrounding areas several times during the spring/summer months and would be happy to bring down parts if I have anything you might need/want.

Say...that 700r for instance.

Well today I took it to the body shop. The first picture is on the trailer taken this morning, it was a beautiful day. The next picture is of the truck rolled off waiting to go in the shop. The third picture is of a nice 78 ford pick up that the owner uses for his daily driver. He is taking the body off this week and sending the frame to the blaster. I am going to get the frame back in a couple weeks so I can put the drive train and misc other things. Its going to be sweeeeet!!!!!

VTblazer thanks for the offer, I think I am going to fore go the headache of buying a used one and get a bowtie one. You are still more than welcome to stop buy and take a look at it.

Well I got the engine stripped down tonight and started cleaning the transfer case. Not a whole lot done but things that needed to be done. Hopefully I can get everything cleaned and painted the weekend.

Got the engine and transfer case scrubed down today and started cleaning up the fuel and transmission lines. I'll get the frame back in little over a week a so I need to quite being lazy and drinking to much beer.

Question: As I was cleaning my transfer case I noticed that there was white numbers scribbled on top of it. It appeared to be chalk and in 4" big numbers it was written 253 (I think) is this something they did in the factory to keep track of things on the assembly line? Just wondering if any of you have ever seen this. I will post some pictures tomorrow.

S/B 205, possibly from a junkyard, seen them mark parts like that. Post up a pic. we'll tellya. Good progress! J.

Well as promised here are some pitures. It seems as though I am doing more sculpting than cleaning. The engine cleaned up pretty well, but the transfer case is another story. It's like there is cement on it. those thirty years as an Arizone park truck must of built up a dirt/oil mix that rivals any epoxy.

I also posted a picture of the transmission just to show how bad it was. Luckly I am going with a 700R4 so that doesn't need to be cleaned right away.

As I mentioned before the engine cleaned up pretty nice. I am going to paint that tomorrow.

The last picture is the first load of powder coating heading to the coaters. Everything except for the starter, needed that for the core charge.

Well, finally got the engine clean and sanded down. drum roll please...

I have a chevy orange engine. I got it done and it looks feaking sweet.
And then I go impatient and had to see what it looked like with the valve covers on. For the first time in my life, i have something in my engine compartment that can be smudged with finger prints. And once the valve covers were on, I had to see what the new water pump looked like mounted. So I threaded them on enough so the water pump wouldn't touch the engine. I wanted to put the oil pan on, but figured I should wait till the paint cures.

Final picture. Whats the best way of cleaing all of those lines. If I switch from the old brake fluid to the silocone do I need to switch the lines? I really should get a small parts cleaner.

Pick up the frame on Saturday and will start mounting drive train and lines. My goal is to have it back to the body man in two weeks. Spring is coming and I need to get this thing on the road

Picked up the frame yesterday and checked in on the body. The frame looked really nice and the guy did a great job of welding in a hole that the PO had notched in the frame so he could run headers. After getting it home I put the gas tank on and began to change out all of the old bushings in the suspension. It is a PITA to get all that rubber out but things are definately looking nice. So hopefully I will get some stuff done this week before the weekend. I don't see myself being very productive during St. Paddy's weekend.

Well I havent posted in a while. I worked on it this weekend and got the parking brakes installed, the poly bushings installed, and the engine 75% complete. I posted a thread last week about breaking off a piece on the serp bracket but if yo didn't see I included a picture. And for some reason I can't find the other parking brake retaining rod so I'll have to go down to the fab shop and see if they can bend me on, LMC wants 30 bucks a set. I will have the new transmission delivered next week and I have it planned to return to the body shop the last weekend in March.

Yep, the old one was so rusted that I needed to cut it to get it off. I problaly could have gotten it off without cutting it but it was a good excuse to buy a new one. ha ha
