All terrain vehicles

This appears to be one of if not the first attempt at an atv for the masses built by Henry Ford. Based on a model T. Too soon I guess.

Re: All terrain vehicles

Henry Ford had is downside but the man sure had some ideas. Sometimes they were just a bit too far ahead of the curve to catch on. Given the roads back in them days that might have been a more desirable configuration to have.

Henry Ford was an innovator. He did a lot of crazy stuff. Soybeans and hemp.

Case in point. The 1940 Hemp car. And old Henry taking a few whacks at it with a crowbar to demonstrate how strong it was. He might have been getting into the hemp a little himself at the time.

Re: All terrain vehicles

I believe this was all aftermarket, but the "snowmobile" conversion kits were kinda cool.

This is interesting. Worthy of its own thread, even.

Beer is better as long as you don't go crazy with it. Alcohol in general needs to be kept in check. I have friends that get stinking drunk and it doesn't look fun to me.

I have my own war stories about drinking. This one is possibly the worst.

My friends sister had a roommate in college. She was drop dead gorgeous. I had a huge crush on her.

We all drank quite a lot one night. And I went to a bedroom and passed out.

The next day I was hungover and my buddy was driving home. He called me an idiot. I asked him what his problem was.

He told me that Heather had spent the night in my room and she was mad because I was out like a light the whole time. I never woke up. I never knew she was there. It pissed her off.

Opportunity lost. She went off to college back east the next week.I never saw her again.

Young and dumb.

Dang...what a shot. Timing and shutter speed...way back then...using whatever flash technology available and likely under the hood. Only one chance to get it right too.

I'm pretty intrigued that he put effort into those alternative materials so long ago. Hopefully he was not inclined to sit down and smoke a fender or two in the evening

Re: All terrain vehicles

I've done a little bit of reading of posted info on a hemp car. I do not trust all that has been written on the subject. If Ford did in fact build one hemp car I would think it would be in a Ford museum along with his many other accomplishments and inventions and be easy to verify. So far I have not seen verification.
Don't believe everything you see on the internet.

But it's all true isn't it?

I heard that they raced the hemp car....It got smoked.

The prize was Twinkies, Ding Dongs, and potato chips.

Seriously. I can believe it for one reason. Ford made a lot of cars. If he could find a material that was less expensive than steel then that would make him more money. Just like the plastic cars today. It's all about the bottom line and he was a businessman.
