facebook trucks listing ?

What is up with the marketplace listings? I've been scanning lots of ads and I frequently see an ad that says "trade only, do not offer cash". Of course some sellers are looking for something in particular they'd like to have and would like to trade with no cash outlay. Others who knows.
What is the advantage to "trades only" and who wouldn't like cash in hand?

Maybe they're worried about taxes? Maybe they just want to see whats out there? I don't know, I've wondered about that also.

Re: facebook trucks listing ?

I dropped facebook earlier this year and the only thing I miss is the marketplace part. I am a member of another Arkansas based outdoor board that has a for sale and trade section. Lots of folks not interested in cash but would rather have a trade item. Keeping the barter system alive I guess.

I've never declared bankruptcy. But I have been plenty divorced. It's not that easy to hide money. ( Not that I tried )It's all been tried before. If you trade then you still have assets. It's just something else for them to go after.

I've never understood the whole trade thing either. I'll take cash. I generally have no interest in what the other guy is trying to unload.

I did call one guy on a trade. He wanted to trade a square body 4X4 for a boat.

I have a boat that doesn't get much use. I would rather have the truck and he lived near me. So I gave him a ring and threw it out there.

It didn't work out. He wanted the boat and too much cash. As much money as the truck was worth. So maybe that's the angle. Sell for what you want in the first place and get something else thrown in.

I don't know. Some of them are real blunt about it. Then there is the price listing thing. Some of them put in their price and it displays as something like $1,234 and they say they cannot change it. I'm not a facetrucker so I don't know how all that works.

Re: facebook trucks listing ?

There seems to be a lot of scammers out on FB Marketplace right now. Tractors, cars, trucks etc. listed for ridiculously low prices, usually like 1200 bucks for something that should cost 10 times that much. There are often no local pictures with the ad being listed as local. The seller is usually a dealer acting on behalf of someone else.

There seems to be very little policing of the advertising.

Re: facebook trucks listing ?

It seems pretty loose over there. And as a non registrant you cannot see all the info in the ads such as contact info.

We believe this is a listing in Texas of our stolen truck in Arkansas. Cops say that the name is fictitious and that truck has not been seen in their town EVER.

My son says what a lot of these people do is this…..they list it under a fake name, then when you contact them they agree to meet at Wal Mart and sell for a cash price, then they’re gone and you have made a purchase for something that may or may not be stolen so you just go on about your business and they do too.

Facebook marketplace is full of stolen stuff being sold by people with fake names and accounts. Beware crackheads & criminals.

I've been watching your posts about your stolen truck. Sorry for all the headaches you've been going through.

I reported a scammer selling some "White Van" speakers on a reputable local classified web site. It got taken down in a matter of hours. "White van" electronics are knock-off brands supposedly worth thousands of dollars but are actually total junk. They're usually sold high pressure for a few hundred dollars with some bogus story of an overstock situation. Historically they are sold out of a white van in a parking lot.

Re: facebook trucks listing ?

Seems like lots of scammers on all the free (ish) sales sites. AS far as trade only I have run across it a couple times and the reasons I got is they didn't want to go without a ride for any time and were not real sure of what they wanted, so they only went with the trade option. Made sense to me. I have done it once and it worked out as I didn't have a ride in mind ahead of time and the trade made sense as I didn't want to spend time looking for another ride once the first one sold.

They remove contact information from the listings even if you have Facebook.

Re: facebook trucks listing ?

Here's why they do it , It all started in 2006 where someone traded up from a red paper clip all the way to a house . It's all about trading up .

Re: facebook trucks listing ?

Yeah anytime it’s a “trade” the offer is heavily tilted in that persons favor. “I want to trade my inoperative pile of junk for one that runs”
