Radio for the 48

I'm looking for a radio that has Bluetooth and hands-free phone that goes in the original radio slot. I've heard that one brand is better than another, by a guy who sells that brand.

So, I'm looking for recommendations on what radio to use.

Thanks

Re: Radio for the 48

I had a retrosound in my 74 blazer, the fit and look were a perfect match to the original, can’t guarantee that with your 48. But it was a real nice high quality radio I would definitely buy again if I was keeping the stock look.

Re: Radio for the 48

Thanks. I found this, 1947-53 Chevrolet Truck Hermosa Radio at Retro Manufacturing. Can anyone confirm this is a good option?

Thanks.

Re: Radio for the 48

I have used custom auto sound in three of my cars and will use the same in the 57 I am doing. They fit easy to hook up and sound pretty good. I personally don't need a super sounding stereo and these are good enough for me. I guess you can add amps if you want it louder. Steve

Re: Radio for the 48

Thanks.

I'm not looking for the greatest sound or to push huge thumpers, I'm looking for it to work! I put a Panasonic in my 06 F350 that doesn't hook up to the phone everytime. If I stop, turn it off and start the truck up again it will eventually reconnect. I put a different make radio in the 79 Cherokee and it "looses" connection with the phone and I have to go through and reconnect the phone to the radio. So, I'm looking for one that readily hooks up to Bluetooth.

I have read that some radios are better at start up than others, especially if you are using Bluetooth.

Re: Radio for the 48

Even tho my 54's cab is very well insulated, wind/road noise makes me glad i did not spend big bucks on an expensive radio. I have heard same for other AD Even my $16 one with an SD card sounds really good when parked.

Re: Radio for the 48

I took a little different approach. Since there's a bunch of different hidden head units that run off of bluetooth, I decided I'd just make a dummy head unit to mimic the original in the dash with the actual head unit controlled by my phone under the seat. The dummy head unit is just the replacement plastic trim, knobs and buttons for an original radio.

Thanks Ogre. You may be right, but you can't blame a guy for dreaming.

Re: Radio for the 48

A year ago I saw the retro factory replacement on several sites.
45 watts a channel x4 with bluetooth phone, aux input and RCA amp connections.
Searched for the lowest price and found radiosforoldcars.com for about $80 less at the time.
It took 6 months to get, but I'm still working on the cab.
Just looked it up and it's a $100 more now. WOW!
Haven't heard it installed yet, but have another 18 months of warrantee time left, lol.
