Custom center console for my 72 - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Got tired of no cup holders and not really liking commercially available options so I decided to make my own . Never done upholstery from scratch so I gave it a shot . Started it a few weeks ago the main body is 1/2 inch plywood . The raised portion is made from foam board it wasn’t easy getting the upholstery to make the curves I wanted ,but a little heat and lots of manipulation it came out decent. The only thing I won’t use again is headliner foam it tends to leave imprints .

Just need to make the cubby and put some fuzzy carpet on a piece of 1/4 ply to fill in where it butts up to seat.

Tried to blend it with the seat. Didnt want to use cloth so I used a cream color vinyl for the insert .

A person would have to be pretty nit picky to not go along with what you have done Mark . Unless your truck is bright pink and I doubt that very much .. ,, put it in there and take another photo for us.. looks like it's gonna work out just fine .

Good job on this. Made-at-home consoles tend to look like they were made at home. They also tend to look like they are made out of carpentry materials. Yours not only avoids those two factors, but simply looks good with nice lines.

Thanks but it's a bit of a job may make another for my 68 but that's about it. When the snow melts I'll get this one in my 72.

My only regret is I didnt put speaker holes in it . This way I can get the ones in the door out , I still can but it'll be a lot more difficult

Back I put the carpet on so the heat wouldn’t get caught up in the console. Didn’t have to be pretty

Going to be nice being able to see getting in the truck . The dome light sucks I rewired it and put an LED bulb in it better but still not enough.

It sucks not being able to hear! LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB! After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
