Question '54 3100 on a '77 frame

Greetings from the Far North (land of heavily heated garages),

I'll post a picture or two later. I have a 1954 Chevy 3100 that I've attached to a 1977 4wd frame and drivetrain. This is a project truck for my daughter, a senior in the US Naval Academy. The frame and drivetrain is in good shape and of course I've spent lots of time on that frame prior to mounting the cab and bed. I am now in the final stages of getting this rig on the road but have hit a wiring block. I'm using the wiring harness and fuse block from the '77 and have a few stranded wires that I'm having difficulty figuriing out where they go. While the frame and drivetrain were in good shape and the wiring harness complete, several ends of the wires lost their connector so it's been difficult to identify where they belong. I have a few wiring diagrams but they haven't helped so far. The odd things is that when I attach a power source to the red wire attached to the battery post of the alternator all things work great, however when I attahc that same power source directly to the battery cables I get nothing. Somwhere somehow I have a cable reversed or not hooked up to the right spot but so far unable to determine which one. If anyone has an idea I'd love to hear it. I'm about ready to pull the harness and fusebox and get a new one and start from scratch. All that's holding me back is the thought that I'm simply missing something simple. FInding a good wiring diagram has been futile so far - I even have tried using the one from my '94 to help. Anyway, thanks for the forum and stay warm - it's 20 below zero here today!

Welcome to the board from South Mississippi. I recommend asking your question on the electrical board or the 73-87 Message board.
