Let the BBs breath.

Found a Vet dual snorkel air cleaner. Looks good on the 454 and should let it breath. The original air cleaner was fresh air fed from the front core support but would not clear the cowl hood's extra bracing and the high rise intake.

Re: Let the BBs breath.

do you plan to give it back the colder air from up front or just let it suck in more engine bay hot air ?

always loved the look of a twin snorkel filter unit .

I considered it but too much hassle. Different size hoses, no place to add the LH hoses and too much interference with all the junk under the hood.
NOTE: That is a Gen VI late model roller motor, "simplified". QJET carb, (no FI), V-belts (no serp belts) and no computer. I think we could call that "Old School". I got to keep it simple!

Re: Let the BBs breath.

What intake did you use. I put a 96 mercury marine vortec 454 in my 72 but it has the iron four barrel manifold and I would like to change it.

Re: Let the BBs breath.

The Vortec 454 is a Large Oval Port head, any Large Oval Port intake will work. Keep in mind the Edelbrock Performer 2-0 is a Peanut Port intake, their Performer RPM Oval Port intakes are Large Oval Port. Weiand make both a Peanut Port and Large Oval Port Intakes for the idle -5500 RPM range.
