71 or 72 Sport Mirror Location

Wondering if someone would be so kind as to fill me in on the location of the mounting holes for the sport mirrors on 71 or 72 blazer (I'm assuming they will be the same for 71 and 72). All of the holes on my doors were welded up (had large tripod mirrors and wanted to switch to sport mirrors). Probably gonna buy the reproductions from LMC unless someone has had a bad experience with them. A picture marking the origins of the measurements (probably top of door and front edge of door) would be great to help be more precise (there's always room for interpretation when info is passed along!) Thanks!!

Yes, thanks Tom. However, I'm trying to figure out what the lines "20" and "35" are in reference to? Also, from the schematic it looks like the driver's side mirror sits closer to the front of the door, is this correct? Thanks!

Re: 71 or 72 Sport Mirror Location

Here are my measurements for the stock location. The 7 in is from the door front edge. Vert is not 3in but maybe 3/4in from body line. And yes, I have 8.25 (rather than 7in as the drivers side) from the door edge (front) to the screw on the passenger side ( prob for visibility)

Re: 71 or 72 Sport Mirror Location

I dont have the exact info at hand but the passenger door side mirror does sit in a different spot from the drivers.

But with that said my passenger side stock sport mirror location on my 72 Blazer is absolutely useless, I can't angle it in far enough to see anything on that side. My mirrors are repros, for the price they are ok I guess for a driver but don't expect them to stay perfect for long if you live in a harsh climate.

Re: 71 or 72 Sport Mirror Location

I wish I'd had somebody hold the passenger side repro. sport mirror in position while I sat in the driver's seat... like 69-72 said I can't turn it in far enough to see much. I guess mine were made in the same place in China as his, they've been mounted for less than a month and already have bumps in the finish on the mounting piece that I can catch with my thumbnail. I waxed them before I mounted them. They haven't been outside the shop yet. I used my '67 as a reference to measure but apparently the originals are different. WISH we'd had this post a month ago..... 'course my Dad always said "Son, WISH in one hand and ......"

Re: 71 or 72 Sport Mirror Location

Well crap, that doesn't instill much faith in me for repro's. It is a fair weather driver but I don't want to spend $100 on something that's gonna look like crap in two months regardless of how it's treated. I did a quick search on here for some for sale but haven't really come up with much (especially anybody selling the mirrors, gaskets, backing plates, and screws all in one package, let me know if you have some, don't need to be perfect it's a driver not a shower). Anybody know where I can get some NOS mirrors? I think I'll take your idea RustyBucket and have someone hold it for mounting, I highly doubt anyone would notice the difference in location and it's worth it more to me to be able to see. Thanks!

Anyone happen to have an accurate width (outside of mirrors in normal position and folded in [as much as possible]) on a blazer with sport mirrors?? Thanks!!

Re: 71 or 72 Sport Mirror Location

I like to use those little fish eye mirrors that you can buy at any auto parts store and stick them onto my passenger side mirror. Just so that I get a little better view in my blind spot. I'm getting a little older and I can't whip my head around like I could before.
