So you can see the river from the deck? The street name is great. You need to come up with a name for the place using that (so you can stop calling it the bachelor pad and all). There is an old country road near here called Whiskey Springs Rd. Been on it end to end but can't seem to find that spring!

Don't worry about those leaves. In time you'll either flick a butt or a spark from the BBQ will take care of that. I predict you will have that same gathering of leaves in that same spot every year.

With all your free time, go to the county's tax assessor's office to see who owns that lot. Could be held by county commissioners due to non-payment of property tax. If so, it could be had for the amount of back taxes. Could be for one reason or another it's tied up in a title dispute, and you could file a first right to refusal to be first in line once that gets settled

Are you sure that's a church pew and not a 1919 Chevy truck seat?

That came out excellently. Sanding was the fun part, right? The question is "Are you happy?". Uh, well... No you're right

I made up a batch of that mini-1/4 round yesterday. I about froze my fingers out there! It was a clear blue sunny, maybe up to, mid-20s day but the table saw created a wind chill and Jack Frost wormed his way through my gloves. Had to come in by the woodstove for a thaw break!

Then I decided to do another project I thought up. I had this piece of slab wood from out of my former boss's old bank barn. The hay floor was made up of old wide live-edge slab cuts laid down loose, lapping over one another. He had me take it up and lay back down in a single layer so it can be covered with plywood. This meant cutting the ends off of some. I stuck those pieces in my truck rather than toss out.

The project is make a small coffee table type thing, something minimal to take less space. I'm calling it a coffee stool. I always used a cobbler's bench, but it had to be set away from the couch for leg room, which meant walking around it in my small house. My son scooted it across the room to set his big Playstation monitor on, which works well. That's what we watch DVDs on. This table is about the size of a stool so it can set against the couch next to where I/we sit. Just something to set your drink on. I think it will be nicer than the Ryobi box
Attachment 2163220
The rest of it is made out of that oak 2" x 4" I started cutting on for part of the countertop extension I made last week
Attachment 2163221
Beautiful wood inside that thing!
Attachment 2163222
Not exactly a table yet
Attachment 2163223
I plan to put it together today
It amazing the wood that was used for utilitarian stuff back in the day . The oak is beautiful

What did you do, Mark, use acid?. I used the stamped brass plated hinges of the same style in my upstairs bath cabinetry about 35 years ago. I think it was 18 total. One of my kids had a tantrum and damaged a door and hinges. I could only find the ones like you used. BTW, the bathroom actually was added in what was a bedroom later since originally the place had an outhouse. So I did it in an early 1900s style. It's all painted porch ceiling paneling with carpenter built-ins. so the hinges are painted over since after all those years they probably would have been. Anyway, I had to try to make the solid hinge not stand out from the stamped. I mean, repairs are ok for the vibe I go with, but I wanted it to look like an old repair. ground all the edges some, installed them, and slathered caulk around the edges to mold them in. I wanted to look painted under for years. I guess it worked out well.
Here's what's funny. This year I've been digging out my cellar. On break since before Christmas. But I had to move things out. There was a good sized plastic bag and in it were the wood knobs I originally used and a good many pair of the stamped brass plated hinges from 35 years ago!. I think I did that repair about 10 years ago! Oh well. I have extra hinges.

Ain't that the truth? It's because it's from the tree that was close by
Great wood used to grow on trees. Or rather, it used to be THE trees! I hang onto all that stuff. Those coffee stool legs were from my ex-bosses barn, loose. They were sixteen footers, all twisted up. He had me cut them up and put on the burn pile. They went into my truck!

My Fein multi-master needed a repair and I picked it up Friday. I was waiting for that to take care of a thing in my kitchen that has bothered me for about 30 years. I painted the kitchen a couple years ago and never put the switch plates on these two spots because I really wanted to fix that mess. I hired an electrician to wire the kitchen and this is how he did the receptacle and switch. Not only two separate boxes about next to each other, but not even close to being aligned. Also, by the fridge, he pit the switch behind the receptacle. I swapped those around. I guess he didn't know what to do since it wasn't drywall? Probably it's because he sucked!

I'll paint in the morning. And I have oak cover plates to match the receptacle plates in there

Nice patination on the hinges, Mark!

I'm working on carving the family coat of arms at half scale, in high relief. I'm hacking away and am close to the finish/burn decision. Some project wood comes from the burn pile, some project wood ends up in the burn pile.

Didn't get anything done, had to take a conx to Milbank, South Dakota. Left Wednesday and got home today. Long week.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Yesterday went to get some slabs that have been in the rafters according to my neighbor since he has been here early 70s so they may be even older . Thought they were pine but they are way to heavy for pine and to get down with two people . My plan was to use the steel girder beam that runs from front to back along the ridge beam and a block and tackle. No dice need more people so they can wait till spring but I did find laying on top of them and old block and tackle . This used to be a working hay farm . That’s why my barn has open seams on the side boards to let air move through the barn . Looks to be hand forged steel with wood rollers

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Nice find. FREEBIE!! I have one I grabbed out of some barn somewhere. I wanted to mount it under the peak lookout on the front of my mini-barn, but this will go to my next place!

I got the two walls painted yesterday and the switch plates that match the rest of the kitchen installed.

I need to start getting out to make some money. But yesterday I also put that little coffee stool together. My sanders are buried, so belt sanding the top and oiling the thing up will come latter. The only thing I bought were the finish screws

Ohhh... I thought that was a picture of a boat hull

So Mark, it looks like the barn had a hay trolley. I guess that's not still lurking up there, is it? I had one like this, but I ended up selling it at Carlisle

Haven't seen one but once I get up there again it may be buried under barn swallow nests and droppings

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Really can’t wait for warm weather. Can’t work on the trucks no heat in my barn or tent . Decided I needed a new mallet so I made one out of a couple pieces of firewood Ash head and walnut handle. Didn’t get any pictures of the mortise but I did it with the drill press and hand chisels. The piece of a hickory is for the bath vanity .

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Nice! the silver lining behind the cloud is you are getting some great alternate things done.

I put the snow birds on my front porch. Roof was clear and temperature was eased up, so good day for it. They are stamped stainless steel. I had them sandblasted to help paint adhesion. Picked them up last week, primed and painted them with the DTM primer/paint left over from my garage roof. Let them cure in front of the woodstove.

It was good to have pictures from doing the porch roof for locating the purlins, but I still pulled some screws to take a peak to be sure I was fastening into them

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Long post. But I had a busy day.

I started moving stuff into my new place. What a PITA. Just me and my wife and she got grumpy fast. Double PITA.

It get's better. When we get there, there's no water or propane. It's been shut off. Great!

Water company is closed. Propane company is closed. Are you starting to see where this is going?

I had called the water company in the morning and they screwed up the order. The propane is on me. I couldn't remember which company it was. It's different than the one I use. But it's their tank in the yard.

So. I buy a bunch of bottled water to keep the toilet working. My wife insisted on spending the night despite having no water. I wasn't too worried about the propane. The place has a wood burning stove.

We brought potato salad, and stuff for sandwiches. But. We didn't bring any silverware. Time to go out to eat.

We went to the WORST Italian restaurant. It was so bland. I don't think that they had any spices in the place. The food was tasteless. I asked for some pepperoncini to kind of doctor it up. They didn't have any. They're an Italian restaurant and they don't have any peppers?

And they only had one beer. I don't mean one brand. They only had one bottle of beer in the place.

The water company was Johnny on the spot once I got ahold of them. They were there in 5 minutes. Propane was not. I've never used them and they said I had to fill out a credit application and I had to go to their office 20 minutes away to do it. I couldn't do it over the phone or the internet. And they would slide it under the door because of Covid and I could slide it back under the door.

We were driving there and Mama's getting pissy again. I fill out their stupid application, slide it under the door, and we start heading home. I see Wienerschnitzel and I'm hungry. I suggest that we stop and get some chili dogs.
Bad idea. She wants to go home. Now she's mad. So, then I was really dumb and told her to just drop me off. I'll find a ride home.

So. I'm standing in the Wienerschntzel parking lot watching her drive away. I thought to myself "She's not coming back' Might as well have a couple chili cheese dogs while I wait for the bus.

This place was the weirdest Wienerschntzel that I have ever seen. They sell liquor there. High end stuff. Not what you would expect from a fast food joint. A wall of booze.

Then she cooled down and came back and we had hot dogs and Pepsi's. All was well. I didn't need that bus after all.

Tough day. And the good news is that I get to do it all over again this weekend.

Drilled a 1 1/2” and 1 3/4” holes to mount the fixtures . Dry fit everything just for my own piece of mind . I have to seal the holes with Waterlox just in case . Thought I bought a copper ptrap but I can’t find it so off to the plumbing supply tomorrow if I can . I just want to test it since I still need to do some mud and tapeing.

What did you do today not on your truck, Paul?

I wrote a story about a day in my life

We have a pizza place in Mt. Airy that is really successful and I don't understand how. I guess they were the only one at first and nobody knew what good pizza was. Just circular red food is all, no spices. No one corrected them on proper English conjugation on their name either. It's called New York J&P Pizza. "Man, that New York place sure makes good J&P pizza" The guy's from Sicily. Why not call it Sicilian pizza? Do people in Sicily crave NY pizza or do people in NY crave Sicilian pizza? I call it suck hind leg pizza

Mark, that Waterlox is great stuff. I really like it. I did my kitchen back before I knew about it, so stuck with Helmsman, less natural looking. I use Waterlox on everything with a lot of water exposure like your vanity.

Pizza wasn't even invented in Italy. My claim to fame today was taking my wife in for a colonoscopy. No, really, at the hospital!
