They were both strange dudes. But you can't pick your relatives or who you work with.

Russ brought up buns..Jack's bacon cheeseburger used to be decent..then they changed their buns..its now awful..cant stand the "new" buns
Then what Paul said about no salt fries..I've done that for yrs..mainly because fast food end to heavily over salt the fries.. good thing is I always get hot fries..

they came out with a new flour in the early 00s, pizza hut switched to it because it was like 1/10th the semolina blend they used prior, made the crusts more like pretzel than the chewy and great it used to be. then it spread to burger places. terrible. but when you save 10 cents a burger and you sell hundreds of millions of burgers a year....

I worked fast food in the 90s. guy who ordered no salt fries thinking they got the freshest fries, especially when it was already busy in the restaurant and there wasnt a old fry even in the waste bucket, usually got the "floor model" burger or at least extra seasoning. not condoning it, some people legitimately cant have salt and nevermind how much salt was in the burger, but it happened a lot. my brothers kids would order all kinds of special stuff in the drivethru, i bet they have eaten just gallons of someone elses spit with all their crazy demands.

Re: What are your top 5 take out burgers??

Back when I was younger (a lot younger)my buddy's and I pulled into a drive thru in the wee hours of the morning. We had been partaking in the spirits all night.

My friend that was driving ordered every single item on the menu and he did it really fast, rapid fire, like an auctioneer.

We all started yelling at him because he was going to screw up our order. But he didn't. The girl on the speaker was cracking up. She heard us yelling at him and told him to knock it off. But she was laughing when she did it. I think she was bored when the clowns showed up. She kept laughing and waved goodbye as we drove away in a beat up 67 VW with some darn good burritos.

Re: What are your top 5 take out burgers??

1. Bob's Drive In in Paducah Ky

2. Culvers- except Marion Il (don't like that one)

3. Whataburger

4. Midway Diner (between Shelbyville Tn and Murfreesboro Tn
great burger)

5. 5 guys

We used to have 3 or 4 burger joints in our area called "Station Burgers"
They were started and ran by members of the Paducah fire dept.
Early on, you waited in line, they were so good. Then they started hiring kids and business took a tailspin and they are all gone. Sad.

Re: What are your top 5 take out burgers??

Whataburger keeps popping up. I want to try one. But I googled it and there are none in California. Dang it!

My wife and I went to a Mexican restaurant and she ordered a cheeseburger.

Who does that?? It's a Mexican restaurant Blondie in case you didn't notice.

Well I stand corrected. That was one good cheeseburger. But this is a mom and pop place and I think whatever they make they do it well. Next time I go I'm getting a cheeseburger. I had to sweet talk my wife just to get a couple bites of that one. She wasn't giving it up. She was showing me the door.

My enchilada's were good but average.

I did not like their food.
I ordered Chicken wings.

I think good bread is the key to a good sandwich. I try to make my own buns whenever possible. I just use that Pillsbury stuff in a tube. No muss no fuss. It sure beats that stuff that you get at the store and it's easy.

I never though about buns when I was young unless they were behind a short skirt. Then I thought about them a lot. But back to bread. It makes a difference.

Re: What are your top 5 take out burgers??

The really wild part of this is that there are 2 different versions.
The ones that I know (and have been to) started in Texas.
Those are WhatABurger all in one word.
Apparently at about the same time another What-A-Burger was opened in Virginia.
They know about each other and have some legal agreement, somewhat sharing the name, so we may not all be talking about the same thing?

Re: What are your top 5 take out burgers??

Can you guys with whataburger not in NM get green chile on your burgers? I’m thinking not, their green chili double is really bad ass. Then again you can get green chile burgers from McD’s here too. Green chile is legal crack in NM.

There are a couple small chain taco places in LA. One is Alberto's and the other is Alfredo's but their signs are are almost identical and so is the menu. It's hard to tell them apart. Somebody copied somebody.

And we had EZ Take Out Burger which was a deliberate clone of In N Out. I don't know if they are still around. They had a burger that they called the "Double Take' which was exactly the same as a Double Double. They never really caught on. Maybe In N Out put the slamma jamma on them. But I almost liked their burgers better than In N Out.

Green chile burgers at Mickey D's? You're killing me here Tyler. That's it. I'm going to New Mexico. I could put green chiles on ice cream. Actually that doesn't sound half bad. I might have to give that a try.

I did not know about the other one.

Ours here is the one word name chain from Texas.

Whataburger

Lol yea actually they have green chile ice cream here too, I make a mean home made apple pie with it too around Thanksgiving/Christmas time. We put that shiz on/in everything here. You bastards are making me hungry, now I want a whataburger green chile double and green chile apple pie… what could possibly go wrong. Too bad the closest whataburger is in Albuquerque.

Edit ok I gave into temptation. These bad boys are only $2.50 too!

Re: What are your top 5 take out burgers??

I'm not sure I can make a definitive #1, but my top 5 would be
Wendys
Fudruckers
Roy Rogers when the Fixen's Bar is open
5 guys
BGR

When my brother and I are in Vegas for SEMA we always hit White Castle and In & Out at least once, usually a few times. But those aren't here in VA, yet. I think Tim mentioned it, I love a good bar burger. Usually a dive bar, there was a place by my old place in Fairfax that had some of the best burgers and on burger night you could add anything to it all for like $10 bucks with a side. My local Moose Lodge also has some tasty bacon cheeseburgers.

Re: What are your top 5 take out burgers??

I don't get into all the "modified" burgers or newer ways to top them. When I want Mexican I eat genuine Mexican. I guess if I had no traditional toppings I'd use a salsa. But just mustard is fine with me. I can handle a mushroom swiss or bacon blue cheese burger on occasion, but mostly I don't need a lot of fluff or gourmet when it comes to burgers. For me burgers are burgers, then there is everything else

No Whataburgers no matter how you spell it around here.

I'm with you on just a burger being just that. A burger. But I have a weakness for chili and green chile.

I see these burgers piled a mile high on the food channel. No thanks. I don't even know how you could eat a burger that's a foot tall.

Re: What are your top 5 take out burgers??

i had fredies today and the hit or miss burger was def a miss today and the shoestring fries still perplexingly awful but the beacon of light was the chili cheese dog that came with a fork and knife which i thought was awfully presumptuous but my goodness... it was fandamntastic.
