Trunnion Rattle

My tail gate rattles and I am going to install upper and lower rubber bumpers ,because since the refurbashing was done ,,no rubber bumpers have been installed .. does this stop the rattle or is there a bushing that fits the Trunnion carrier on the tail gate also to stop some rattle?

Re: Trunnion Rattle

I have not installed mine yet but looks like it should at least lessen the rattle?

Never knew about those. That's good information. And it looks like the one design can be installed to make the tailgate non-removable? That's a good security option. Thanks for posting.

Re: Trunnion Rattle

Is Delrin superior to Polyurethane in this application?

I'm not seeing how they keep the tailgate from being removed. That would make me think about buying them for that reason alone. I had to open my tailgate at least 100 times last week and I was kinda impressed how smooth and easy it operates with one had. I do grease my trunnion once in a while so it works super smooth and can't rust with grease on it.

For a removeable tailgate the one side of the tailgate has a notch you line up to remove the tailgate. To make this possible the trunnion is more square instead of round so it can fit through the notch at the correct location to remove the tailgate. If you want it to become non removeable he sells a round Delrin piece for that side making the tailgate unremovable (without removing one of the trunnions first)

Re: Trunnion Rattle

Anyone had any luck contacting TD? Sent an email and an inquiry through their contact page and haven't heard back.

Update, He responded to my email. I copied the email from his website. I did not contact through the websites contact page.

When I read your post I checked their website. I was surprised to see they are a member here but have not been active in a few months. I wonder if something happened.

Re: Trunnion Rattle

Just installed the TD trunnions. Haven't driven the truck yet, but the tailgate is super-smooth and quiet upon opening and closing and seems like it will have eliminated the remaining rattles due to the sloppy, metal-to-metal contact of the stock parts. The delrin parts fit into the female bed cups really well and only required a little sanding to get the recommended clearance between the insert and the edge of the tailgate, while still allowing the gate to be easily removed.
