Button on dashboard

I've got a button on my dashboard just to the right of the heater control. It pushes in and then comes back out with a spring. It kind of looks like the other knobs but it kind of doesn't. I don't know if this is something that's supposed to be in there or if this is something that previous owner put in. It doesn't seem to do anything. If anybody has any ideas I'd love to hear them.

Re: Button on dashboard

It’s a blank for a phone charger. Pull the “button and spring” out, place it in your .... change container ( that thing that pulls out just above it) and then plug your phone charger in.

Ummm.... yeah, but I was just giving an alternative idea. Depending on your age, some may not know what a cigarette lighter is. Kind of like those crank things on the door panels....

haha guess I showed my age as well!

but to be honest, I'm sure 98 percent of the time it is used as a phone charger.

Hilarious! I actually love it that we have folks with interest in these trucks that have never known a factory cigarette lighter. My plan on my 67 is to repurpose it just as stated, as a USB charging port.

I honestly thought Toonman was trying to be funny, so I was making light of it. Not too sure he wasn’t. But yeah, I never picked up the smoking habit, so mine is usually charging hers or my iPhone. I’m one of the 98%.

Well I assume that's where the cigarette lighter / phone charger plug was. But this is actually a button that pushes in like an aftermarket horn button.

It actually doesn't come out like a cigarette lighter. It just pushes in like some kind of a horn button. I'm very familiar with what a cigarette lighter looks like. This one isn't even close to that

I appreciate the meme but it does not pop out. I've had cigarette lighters and everything I've had I know what the f*** they are. This one doesn't pop out it's like a horn button. I was just trying to ask a serious question

Re: Button on dashboard

What plugs in to the back? Can you trace it and see where it goes? I had a friend that installed a kill switch in his cigarette lighter. It worked well and nobody would ever look there.

There are two wires but I haven't actually traced where they went I didn't know if this was some kind of option I wasn't aware of because I know it's the cigarette lighter hole

It's actually not a lighter. It is a solid switch with 2 wires on the back. I've been building Chevy Cameos for 40 years. I've had lighters. I was just looking for honest help.

Ok ToonMan, let's start over. Did you try to pull the knob out of the dash?

Yes I did because my first thought was it is a cigarette lighter. It does not come out the whole thing is completely flat sticking out a quarter of an inch from the dashboard
