Here is my Project 1972 C20

This truck was my father-n-laws and passed on to me. It set on the edge of a field at least 20 plus years pulled it out about a month ago. Me and my father got it running. working on brakes right now don't know much about the trans yet. polished the side and bonnet a little just to see what it will look like.

There is an old saying, you got to know when to hold em, and know when to fold them........................................ If your new to these trucks, it may seem cool now, but when reality sets in, you will realize it is a mechanical donor parts type vehicle. Probably the only thing of interest to most would be the
350 engine, front disc brakes and HO 52 4.11 pumkin ( if equipped with Eaton rear). Hope I'm not being to hard, but, to be honest, time and the elements have not been kind to this C 20.

I’m working on one right now that was even worse (my 68).

Take your time and focus on getting running driving and stopping and don’t get distracted by everything else. I think it’s a pretty cool truck and I love the fact that it is a family heirloom of sorts.

Post the SPID when you can.

Not planing on making it perfect but I do have skills/experience on Paint/mechanical/rust restoration also auto body repair. I grew up in a u pull it yard and my father rebuilt cars all his life. Worked at Automobile Atlanta, then a Ford dealership then HMA or now known as AAP Honda, 18 years of my career
was a Repair Painter where I prepped, painted and polished new vehicles that needed it. now I'm in engine assembly. So far I rebuilt the Carb, replaced the gas tank, replaced the master cylinder, replaced rear brake lines, new shoes, new pads, oil change, seat cover, not quite finished with brakes yet. also new plugs and wires. looking at a bed online the same color if guy will ever get back with me.

I do understand what your saying and if I was new to this I would leave it alone. My father said the same. I don’t plan on it ever becoming a show truck but would like to slowly get it back on the road when I need a bigger truck.

Thank you it is more of a family heirloom than something I could fix and let go. That is exactly what the main focus is to start.

As long as you enjoy it. That's the most important thing. They don't all have to be show trucks. Mine aren't and I love em.

Man, from post 11, I'd say you got this thing covered!!!
Long bed, bed sides are plentiful, and not usually expensive. Is the bed floor good?
Thankfully it's a 72 with disc brakes. These make nice drivers or for once in a while heavy haulers...

No the bed is shot, but found one on Facebook same color the side if I have to will pull back out. but hopefully will get the bed I'm after.

I missed it on my first look. The brackets and accessories indicate a later engine. Pickups went with that in 73, cars in 71. The pad in front (width)of the pass side valve cover will get you close to what year the engine is.

I looked up the # on the block and came from 1973.

Truck looks pretty far gone I was thinking too. If you got skills like it sounds I'll stay tuned. I like the black interior it looks sharp and those rims I wonder what they are off of. And Talladega boys raise up whiskey in your glass! I drove through there in 97 to see the race and took the back roads after the race to avoid traffic and got lost.

73 blocks are excellent! Blocks after about 77 are thinner castings.

Great save! If I had a truck like that in my family, no way would I let it go. I'd get it drivable and drive it until a piece fell off and then I'd go get one to replace it and fix it up little by little like that. Cool color, cool truck, and you've already brought it back a long ways. This one will be fun to watch.

Thanks it will be a slow go due to funds but I'm having a great time on it. it also brought back some memories my father had before I was even though of. he told me of a truck just like this he had that was wrecked in the front "he rebuilt cars for a living most of his life" anyways at that time he took that truck to a man with a frame machine to straiten the front, this truck was new and had less then 10000 miles on it, well needless to say he warped the frame and had knocked off the oil filter and ruined the engine. My dad said he knew he had done this because he checked it before hand to make sure the engine was good and actually cranked it before it left for the frame machine guy. at the same time he bought another one that was rolled and to remove the engine and drivetrain to sale that was already sold. now this was before he knew the other engine was seized. by the way he had already bought all the parts for the other one at the frame shop. So he was able to use the frame from the rolled one and also had to buy another engine to go in it that ran rough and smoked. so he had enough of that one loaded the bad engine in the back and just ran it through the auction. It was a cool story I'm glad I got to hear
