My 64 C-10 fleetside shortbed build

I got off at 12 today and again the weather was nice at 65 degrees. I filled in a few pin holes in the roof that I found in the body filler. Then I started putting the seam sealer in. Its my first attempt at using this stuff on a automobile anyway. What do you guys think? does it look ok? I didnt want to get it to thick in the channel so that the water could still drain out the little drain holes. I ready to prime the roof now. I compared my 1.7 tip to the old siphon feed guns tip and it does seem to look like the tip is bigger on the old style gun so I guess ill try that one first with the slick sand. The bottom of the cab is ready to finish paint also. Now I need some time and more great weather!! You do that with a caulk gun?

I took this weekend off, we had dinner plans yesterday and plus it hit -50* so it was hard to get motivated to get to the garage from the git-go. So first weekend I have taken off since I got the truck in Sept.

I cannot wait to see your Slick Sand application!

looks good to me, now come do mine what kind of sealer did you use and like McMurphy said , how did you do it caulk gun ,finger or what? i have heard of people using a gun yhen dipping their finger in laquer thinner and runnig over it. just curious, mine is ready for seam sealer now, need to know how to do it.

I did use a caulking gun cutting the tip real small at a 45 degree angle and running it down the channel then wearing gloves and using a wet rag soaked with thinner to keep my finger wet and clean I smoothed it out. Not quite as pretty around the front of the rocker panels but I wanted it thicker there to keep water out plus it wil not be seen.

Well, terrible paint experience today. Alan you can say " I TOLD YOU SO", lol. I tried the slick sand today. After shaking for a few minutes I opened the can and went to stir and it took me at least 30 minutes to get this stuff stired up. It was all clumped to the bottom of the can. I thinned it a very little and then I tried to spray it in the old style siphon feed gun. The first pull of the trigger and I new it wasnt going to work. I had to hold the gun like 5 inches away with a 3 inch spray pattern. It took me forever to cover the whole roof, lol. Im getting ready to order a 2.5 gun off ebay for next time.

I wouldn't ever say that. Even with the right size tip, it's still a slow go. The pattern is small and you still have to slow down. At least that's been my experience. Looks like a nice job.

If you have a local paint supplier see if they can put it on the shaker for ya. Maybe Home depot might even do it, not sure.

got home from work today and perfect temp at 72 degrees outside so I pushed the cab outside and finished painting the bottom of it. Thats it for the bottom, Its all done up in semi-gloss black and finished. Now I just got to finish blocking the roof and recoat it and block again but I have to get a 2.5 tip gun first.

I didnt have to do any sanding on my seam sealer. Im not sure about doing that. its kinda hard rubbery feeling so maybe Alan can answer this better. But McMurphy I did enjoy the nice 72 degree day today, lol, I had to rub it in.

Its Ok man, I understand.
When it is 100* and 100% humidity outside and you are complaining about how tired you are of sweating to death, it will still only be about 75-80* up here and I will still be wearing a sweater and gloves..... Le Sigh....

Just kidding about the sweater and gloves.
What appears to be sweat stains on my T-shirt at that time will in fact be mosquito repellent that wont actually work, but I will spend money on it anyways.
The little blood suckers wont swarm me if as long as I believe in my bug spray!!

Flips I think im just going with semi-gloss black or satin black on the firewall and inner fenders. I think it will stay cleaner looking after a few miles and hide the dirt and grime. I just read your BBW conversion, I didnt know you had done that. Great factory looking job though.

I got the roof block sanded tonight. I guess I need to order my 2.5 tip gun now.

The slick sand is blocking out real nice. Im wondering if 360 grit paper is to smooth to reprime over??? I know most people are using 220 grit but I dont have any of that right now. It feels pretty smooth with my hand.

that cab is looking really good! your doing a great job keep it up! i think you will be fine with the sand paper as long as you dont go to high like 800-1000 grit that more for the finishes i believe! the 3_ _ something i have says its for paint and primer!

is your shoulder starting to hurt yet i would think the 360 should be fine but alan would probably know best. glad you like the slicksand, i kinda thought you might. you will ready to spray some red paint soon, cant wait to see it done.

My first cut is 180 with guide coat. Then guide coat and cut with 220-320. If things block out good and looks good when wet I reprime with regular primer and block with 400-600. Then go over it with 800.
