Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Ripped into my wife’s bike . Had to take pretty much half the bike apart . Got the mid shaft out u joint was binding and caused pressure on the output shaft causing it to snap. The fix is drill and tap the shaft to accept a 5/16 grade 8 bolt. New u joint is on its way . Next it file a flat onto the shaft and make up a drill guide to drill it square .

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Put in 2nd day gages . The gages in the 85 K20 have been acting up first the volt gage went to zero then intermittently the fuel gage doesn’t work . Now the temp gage never moves even if I ground it out oil pressure goes from 30 to pegged whenever it feels like it . That I traced down to the sender . Guess I’ll be getting a printed circuit. I’m going to delete the volt gage and buy a fuel gage for a temp fix anyone know off hand the wire color for the fuel gage in the harness to the instrument panel ?

Going to tidy up the wires tomorrow .

Edit : been out in the sun to long posted in the wrong area

Sorted through this two fold purchase block and tackle I stumbled across. Check out the woven rope at the thimble end of the block.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

We got some seedlings from the local FFA kids a while back, and my kids have been growing a few things in the garden. Starting to get a lot of peppers and tomatoes. I pickled a few El Jefe and Flaming Flare peppers. Should add a little kick to burgers and sandwiches.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

seeing how i got a new job today and was feeling good, we finally bought the kid a vehicle. ya i know been goin' on the last 2 months about it, but a good deal came up that was too hard to pass up.
no, it's not a truck (maybe later...) but a '91 firebird.
the 2 things that impressed me most was how original this thing is, hasn't been butchered or modified at all (older gentleman owned it) and everything works, and yes even the lights pop up and down perfectly. and we got all the orig and any other work paperwork for it- a complete history of the car.
has 102 000 miles, very minimal rust bubbles around one of the wheelwells and a couple issues need to be fixed. needs hatch struts, the old ones don't hold the hatch up, outer window seals are shot and the turn signal/wiper switch needs work or just a whole new stalk. wipers and lights all work, but it won't click off hi-beams.
it's got the 3.1 with the auto overdrive so it's not bad on fuel. we drove it about 60 miles home and the gas gauge only went down 2 hash marks.
and ya, when i was testing it on the way home, it can light up the tires more easily than i thought. was weird my teenage son giving me hay for spinning the tires
overall it seems pretty solid and drives beautiful, no shakes or shimmies on the freeway, tracks strait, nothing abnormal or weird
i figure it was worth the $3700 we paid for it.
just got it home at 10pm and the kid is already online showing it to his buddy's. he wants to put a set of cragar 5 spokes on it.
i think it will work well as his first car ever

Hows that going to be for insurance , pricey ???
Guess it would be classified as a sports car
At one time it use to be cheaper if you put it in mom or dads name.

Awesome. Not only the very early foundry work and hand forged hooks, but to have the rope survive to show the lost art (it seems) of rope splicing takes it over the top!

Homegrown and homemade. It doesn't get any better.

HEY! Go easy on the kid's car, wooja?

I can appreciate your son has old school taste. But if I ever got a car like that I'd be wanting something like BBSs, like what came on Grand Nationals or other road race type wheel. I'm not going to change the world and he should buy what he wants. Just sayin'...

it still is cheaper in mom or dads name.
we have to buy our basic insurance from a gov conglomerate (ICBC) if we want additional insurance we have the option to buy private.
'bout the only good thing having to buy basic from ICBC is they don't go by age, they go by your driving record, and they don't care if your driving a Lambo, Smart car or a Firebird, basic premiums are all pretty much the same. if it was insured by my son it would cost about $2500 a yr, as he has no driving record to speak of yet. so we put it in wifes name which is $900 a yr and pay an extra $180 to have him on the policy so he can drive it....or wreck it... (actually that's not funny now that i think about it...)

i just find him a bit hypocritical, he spins the tires on my crewcab, yet i light up his and he's like DAD.
he is like his old man though, likes the old school, woulda went older, but the prices on old iron are crazy!
asked him if he wanted a nice sensible gas sipping honda or something, he was like NOPE, don't want a foreign car, came across a real cherry 85 buick, he was like nope, old mans car....ok then....
this is pretty much how he wants his to look

I like the look of the Cragars. But I've always loved the Cragar S/S's. So I am biased. Believe it or not I have never owned a vehicle with them on it and I've owned a helluva lot of cars.

Congrats on the new job. And the car, and having a cool kid.

Hopefully there is no wrecks for him
Here I think there is restrictions on when you can drive and how many passengers .
That $900 seems very reasonable
My youngest was a show off and didn't work well for him and then he got a motorcycle and that tested mom and dads nerves , we begged him to get rid of that thing.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Looks like that freaky double post gremlin is at it again!

I love Cragar S/Ss a lot, too. I'm just showing my age and I guess personality. By the time those cars came out I had already been a solid truck nut and the only cars I liked were '72-back, but for a few exceptions. I see Cragar S/Ss as right for the time period vehicles I mentioned. But I don't expect everyone to see things the same as I do. People are drag racing those cars and Cragars fit in there just fine. I like the look of that red one and realize for a teenager this is an awesome car. If there are any teenagers driving a '72 or earlier Firebird they were probably born with a silver spoon in their mouth.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I love my county in many ways! Here is what I have already done today. Still half asleep, at 5 am I hear a loud sound. My son comes upstairs and asks if I heard it. He said there was a truck in the front and a dog or deer laying there. By the time we got out there the truck had left. It's a pregnant doe and she must have died about instantly. It's going to be quite hot today and I don't have a good way to remove the doe to where she won't be stinking somebody out. So right at 7 I call my county roads office. The gal was really nice and she said they'd be out today. Good, right? Nope!

Here's the complication. My road is the county line. Rather than maintain each individual side of the road, the counties have an agreement where the two mile stretch between two roads of the other county gets maintained/serviced by the county across the road from me. So I get a call-back, no can do. She gave me the other county's number.

This is why I love my county. It seems to be a hole surrounded by way forward moving into the future counties. I guess you could say we are backwards, which seems to be a good thing these days.

I call that number and instead of a sweet woman answering ready to help, I get a 5 minute long recording, first telling me they open at 7am. Good to know, it is now 7:25. I'm given all the options and choose the number I need. I get a recording! I have left a message, it's been a half hour and no call back. Gotta go make another call. I wonder how many messages I'll have to leave on this wonderful new yet ineffective way of conducting business.
