Re: My new Beater 1959 GMC

Just gathering parts.
396ci pulled out of a buddies car so that a 502ci could go in. A core turbo 400 to be rebuilt.

Also have decided to change front clip to 1955-1956 chevy and the tailgate to chevy also.

Another GMC gone Chevy… you probably know the hood hinges are different and use different holes, and the core support saddles will need to move about 2” back also.

Whose cross member and "hats" are those?

I ask because I have an older Fatman Fabrications kit I bought used on Craigslist and never installed on my truck I need to sell. Hopefully to someone here but I can't run an ad. It has A arms and hubs, shocks, etc.

If you wouldn't mind, can you drop me a PM and let me ask some questions?

Re: My new Beater 1959 GMC

Also picked a color. Due to all the different color parts, I decided to paint the exterior. I have always wanted to paint an entire exterior vehicle with rattle cans. This old truck is the perfect candidate. Cam gave me a simple procedure for prepping. Body work will be little to none. After the painting it will get washed and scrubbed to knock a little of the shine off. It will not be nice…but it will be 1 color!!

Forgot to post this. Details! Semi blacked backside of cowl vent and cleaned up wiper trim. I am in AZ so no wipers is no problem.

Re: My new Beater 1959 GMC

I did change my mind no more big block th400, instead going with a 350/th350 good old small block Chevy power. This engine and trans came out of a 75 chevy squarebody. The engine will get a quick clean up and fresh orange paint with some chrome nik-naks. Nothing fancy just clean and simple.

Re: My new Beater 1959 GMC

Front wheels and tires got mounted a couple weeks ago. Also scrubbed the dash and added a sticker. I am getting tired of Bozo’s 😀😀 !!

do you plan to keep the 8 stud wheel running gear or upgrade to a smoother ride?

It’s getting a mustang 2 up front and squarebody leaf springs with a s10 rear axle. Will post more pics as it happens.
