Dummy Filler Neck/Tank Delete for 67-72 Trucks with Removed In-Cab Tank

3/28/24 Update - I will have more available in a few weeks.

I can be reached at dummyfillernecks@gmail.com or send me a PM.

*******PRICING*******
Standard Unit $120 + $10.20 USPS Flat Rate Shipping
Money order preferred. PayPal accepted (you pay fees)

Here's a video that shows the filler neck on my truck.

This is a blank filler neck that fills the hole left behind in the cab when the stock tank is eliminated, allowing you to retain the original look, and avoids the need to patch and repaint the cab. The parts have been sprayed with two-part satin black paint.

Included in the kit:

-Filler neck, shortened, 2-1/4" diameter
-Clamping Plate
-Cab grommet, 67-70 style (fits 71-72 cabs as well), made in USA
-Pan-head screws for clamping plate
-Pan-head screws for increased clamping (not usually necessary)

Installation instructions can be found here.

Note: you will need to provide your own 67-70 non-EEC gas cap, such as Stant 10623 available at O'Reilly for $9. I got my cap from GMCPauls. EDIT - Member D.B successfully used an OE 71-72 grommet with his dummy filler neck. EDIT2 - 71-72 caps do work after all.

As an option, the clamping plate is designed to have an AC power outlet connected to it for people who have an inverter in their truck and want a convenient way to plug external items into it. It's designed to work with Journeyman Pro HJP-5279 (not included). In order to install the outlet, a blanking plug must be removed from the clamping plate (drilling required), and the two mounting holes must be tapped to #8-32. Also, the four clamping plate screw holes must have 100° countersinks added so that 100° flat head screws can be used (not provided). Instructions can be found here.

Overall, I am pleased with the way these dummy filler necks turned out, and I am picky. Please note though that there are some minor cosmetic flaws such as small lumps from the brazing done on the original filler necks I purchased. Some of the welds inside the filler neck are not as clean as others, but the welds are completely hidden inside and are fully functional. There are a few very minor thin spots in the paint as well as the occasional slight orange peel, but the portion that shows from the outside of the truck is very nice. It isn't possible to get complete paint coverage on the inside of the filler neck due to the shape of the opening.

Also, please note that I tested the design on my truck, and it fit quite well. There could be variations from one truck to the next that might influence how snugly the dummy filler neck fits in the grommet. Included are four jacking screws that will allow the fit to be tightened up, if necessary.

Re: Dummy Filler Neck for 67-72 Trucks with Removed In-Cab Tank

Installation Instructions:

1) Install the grommet in the cab opening with the bulge in the grommet lined up with the notch in the cab.

2) Slide the narrow end of the filler neck into the grommet. Twist the filler neck clockwise and counterclockwise a little bit a few times to get the grommet to seat nicely against the lip on the filler neck (it has a tendency to fold inward)

3) Slide the seat forward all the way

4) Apply removable-strength Loctite (blue, 242) on the threads of the smaller screws

5) Insert one of the smaller screws into one of the inner holes in the clamp plate. Insert a Phillips screwdriver into the screw. Hold the clamping plate with one hand and the screwdriver with the other hand. While looking into the filler neck from the outside of the truck, align the screw with one of the threaded holes in the filler neck. Thread the screw in, but do not tighten it. Be careful not to cross-thread the screw, as the material is thin on the filler neck.

6) Install the other three smaller screws and then snug them all down. They don't need to be very tight

7) Install the gas cap. If the filler neck spins when installing the cap, then install the four larger screws into the outer holes in the clamp plate (use removable-strength Loctite) and snug them down against the grommet to lock the filler neck in place.

Modification instructions for installing an AC outlet can be found here:

Re: Dummy Filler Neck for 67-72 Trucks with Removed In-Cab Tank

Patrick looks like another 15 wouldn't hurt. I had to push you for the first run I will motivate you for the second run. The list for a second go around looks good now and it will grow before they are finished. If your only making 11 can you serialize them in case they become collector piece in the future? I think I was lucky number #01 and would like it sent in a nicely hand crafted silk lined box. Lol

Thanks for taking on the project.
