making a headliner a differnt way...pics

Here is the way I made a headliner from home depot door skin. It will now be removed, the fiberglass completed & taken to the upholstery shop.

I think that is going to end up really nice. It will bring the look of the interior up to modern standards. Are you planning on installing a modern seat as well?

All the edges have to be smooth and even to the window and door gaskets , cloth foam backed headliner does not like concave corners it will delaminate in the high heat inside the truck , it's a cool idea but needs some more finishing before covering , are you taking the truck to your upholstery shop ?it will help them on getting the correct fit once covered They can give you some suggestions on getting nice finished edges ,

I took my old headliner off of a parts truck, traced the outer perimeter onto a piece of cardboard and had the upholstery guy who did my seats make me a headliner for mine. He covered it with the same black tweed material he covered my seats in.
But, instead of fastening it with the chrome trim the factory used, and I didn't have to drill/grind out all the oval slots for the plastic trim. H e used "Industrial Velcro" with self adhesive backing to attach it to the roof. I'll post pictures later to show what I am describing.
He made a "raised Chevy Bowtie" in the center, turned out awesome!!!

haven't got around to hanging the actual headliner just yet, that's one of my next items to tackle. I bought a roll of Scotch industrial Velcro to hold it up. Supposedly, this stuff Holds up to 19 pounds of weight, we'll see....
I'll post some pictures later of my headliner and the process.

The "Velcro brand" industrial Velcro is called "Dual Lock" a bit too pricey for me, but Scotch brand has the same stuff far cheaper.
I bought a 4ft. Roll at Lowes for $15.00, far more than I need...

Have a good one!

He's back! The original poster is back. Came out nice. How will you fasten yours? Industrial Velcro. Hmmm... makes me wonder what industry is using this to hold together..

The headliner will be held up with 4 snap button screws.
