Re: Out of boredom....

Good luck with the build. It's unfortunate when you find PO's hack jobs but take the time to fix them now and they will be a thing of the past. Good luck, love the progress so far!

Re: Out of boredom....

Just thought I'd post a little proof that something is actually getting done. It's slow, and I don't really expect the pace to pick up any time soon. I've got tomorrow off yet and hope to have the passenger side at the point of the finishing metal work, aside from the rocker - cab corner gap. I'm undecided as far as filling it or what, I want to see how the drivers side turns out first. I did get the transmission hump modified finally. I raised it 2.5-4", which turned out pretty much perfect so long as it doesn't require and extreme spacing to get my driveline angles correct.

I bought some mdf and intend to start building kick panels and a rear enclosure as a sort of side project when I'm frustrated from the body work.

As long as you have over 4" of concrete, absolutely. I've used it on my 04 Silverado extended cab and it has been fine. Haven't lifted all the way up yet, though. My concrete guy did a crap job. I wanted at least 4" and there were a few spots with less. I've got one anchor that didn't seat so until I get part of the slab ripped up and poured deeper, I'm playing it safe. Really like the lift though, can't imagine life without one now.

Re: Out of boredom....

Well, we have a resurrection of sorts. I've been putting a half hearted effort in every once in a while over the last couple years. I'd work on it, get frustrated and not touch it for a while and the process keeps repeating. I started working on it again and after a little while I kind of blew a gasket. Was ready to give up on the whole thing and sell it as is or part everything out.

Well, I came to a more appropriate realization that I simply cannot finish this truck myself. It just isn't going to happen. I might as well pay to have the final aspects of the body work finished. Not in a huge rush right now to find somebody to finish it. I've got some free time right now as hockey is over for the year and fishing is still almost 2 months away. There are a few things I am going to try and poke away at over the next 2 months that would be good to have resolved before the rest of the body work is done. Have to re-do the vintage air bracket (didn't realize I couldn't weld it to the firewall), set up the door poppers, set up the one piece windows. I'm going to still do some of the more basic body work, try and stick to what is easily within my abilities. Sanding, spraying primer, that sort of thing.

I decided an easy project to get moving along would be to work on the box. Blasted the floor inside and out. Had some cross sill rust repair to do and a few mangled bolt holes in the bed floor to deal with. Cut out for the fuel cell sump. Installed some aftermarket wheel tubs, which took some modifying as they came up to the top of the box. I actually really like the way they turned out. Sprayed both sides with epoxy primer and then did the inside in boxliner and the underside in a rubberized rock guard.
