My new 1955 1st series Truck

This is my 1st series 1955 3100 pickup. I purchased it about 2 months ago. I have got it running after some 25 or so years sitting. It has 63000 original miles on it and it came from the 2nd owner who purchased it in 1992. I have the original title from the delivery day along with the title from the 2nd owner. I changed out the mirrors for original style. It had a camper on it for awhile and it appears the 1st owner welded a steel sheet in it. I removed it today and found a nearly perfect floor. The sad part is the welds on the side rails and head gate I can replace the parts when I restore it some day. It has the 235 engine with a Hydromantic 4 speed automatic trans. Here are a few photos of it.

Re: My new 1955 1st series Truck

I must have the sister to your Chevy !
You have a very nice starting point and a solid truck

I am the second owner of my GMC a Arizona truck with all the docs.
Between the first owner and myself we have over 400K miles on the "sheet metal" everything else has been replaced
I hope it lasts for another 50 years!!

Re: My new 1955 1st series Truck

Sounds like your truck has been completely gone through. Do you drive it regularly? I have several other trucks of various years so I can drive a different truck as my mood changes. I need to replace the freeze plugs and get the radiator done otherwise it seems to run very well. I tried my hand in installing a new headliner but had a few problems it looks better but I am not sure I have the center bar facing the right direction.

I drive one of the trucks listed below, but mostly the 55.
This rebuild has 63000 on the clock in the last 9 years

Not too many miles in that time. I have other commuter cars which helps with gas bills but I still like driving the old ones.

Re: My new 1955 1st series Truck

I have logged about 400 miles on it since I got it running. Runs great but is a bit warm when idling. It runs about 195-200 degrees when sitting. I had the radiator done but may have to change the fan. The automatic shifts great. It steers and brakes with ease. I had my daughter make me some decals for the doors . It is the dealership where it was purchased new. I looked up an old 1955 yellow pages and found the dealer. I decided until it gets restored to give it the shop truck look. If it does not get restored in the near future I will paint the logos on the door for a more permanent application.

No it is not. I heard there was one in Tucson years ago. I wanted an authentic logo so I figured I would use this one since it was where it was from.

Re: My new 1955 1st series Truck

I wonder if it was related to the one in Phoenix? The used car sign resembles the red lettering a bit. Do you know how long it has been around Tucson?
