Turning Issue. SOLVED!! Center-link

I have a 72 5 lug disc brake set up on my 70 C10. Way back I had ECE 2 1/2" Drop Spindles installed ... I have rubbing issues where the truck has a short turn radius ... when I turn my truck it acts like it’s a 4x4 and I get that 4x4 turning hop feeling. If I go with a 2: Drip Spindle ... in theory that should raise the front end about 1/2" which is all the clearance I need. Your thoughts … No its not the wheel hitting as I have done the grinding to make clearance. Check out the pics. Thanks
PS: I have a factory 402BB if that makes a difference...

IMHO using lowering coil springs vs drop spindles is the way to go

Re: 2/1"Drop Spindle Question - Turning Issue.

I think maybe your center link is on backwards(?) I'm not sure.. but I think it goes castle nuts out. That would definitely impact your turning radius.

It very well could be.

This truck was redone years ago but I only started driving it a couple years ago and I am now trying to fine tune it.

The Centerlink according to a 70 Suspension drawing sure looks to be backwards. Looks like whoever did the underneath had no clue...

Thanks

Re: 2/1"Drop Spindle Question - Turning Issue.

First thought I had was, "Shouldn't the tie rods be coming in from the rear with the nuts out the front?" We recently had another member on here with turning issues that fixed up.

Your center link is definitely on backwards.
It needs to be removed and swapped end for end.
Inner tie rod nuts need to be on the FRONT SIDE of the centerlink.

I could have sworn I had photos of mine but could not find one. Here is one from the web. Driver's side but you can see how the inner tie rod comes in from the rear of the center link.

Re: 2 1/2 " Drop Spindle Question - Turning Issue.

Yup, just went through this. They are backwards. It will drive so much better you will not believe it. Toe in will have to be adjusted. Mine was way out after I swapped the center link. You will have to turn the wheel hard over to get it installed as there isn't enough room to install the center link with the wheels straight. Per LocDoc's recommendations install 90 deg fittings to allow for greasing if they are not already installed. Remember "NUTS FORWARD" is how it's installed.
Cheers.

You will need to loosen the tie rod sleeve bolts to rotate them 180 degrees.
But most likely you will need to adjust the toe. Get the wheels as straight as possible and then take it to get the front end re-aligned.

Re: 2 1/2 " Drop Spindle Question - Turning Issue.

FYIO, I had my truck aligned twice and the alignment guy didn't catch it issue. They even drove the truck before and after. So I have three $90 alignments! It was my bad though. I knew it was possible and my research was inadequate. You will like your truck a lot more after it's back to factory.
cheers.

Re: 2 1/2 " Drop Spindle Question - Turning Issue.

I just got a call from the shop that does my work on the C10 ...they changed out the Center-link as it was installled backwards and they said - WOW. It is like driving a new truck. They also said the inside wheel clearance is vastly improved. I hope to pick it up today. Can't wait to drive it.

Again a great big thank you for steering me in the right direction.
