C10 Graveyard - Old Car City USA

Earlier this summer I made the trip to White, GA to visit the world-famous Old Car City USA. Officially known as a classic car museum, more simply this 34-acre junkyard is situated in a southern forest lined with nearly every make and model from the 1970s and earlier. The curation of this scenic museum began back in 1931 and is now the resting place for roughly 4500 cars and trucks including many rare and valuable examples had they not fallen into their current state of decay. I spent 4 hours one Saturday afternoon walking only half of the 7 miles of trails while taking some photos of everything that caught my eye. Naturally, first generation C10s also had my attention and I wanted to share the view of a select few in their final resting spots as it was nearly impossible to capture them all.

Looks like fun! Thanks for sharing.

I've wanted to go for several years now, but haven't made it a priority. Might have to change that soon. I wish they would still sell parts, but that would be quite the challenge these days.

Hard to look at is right. Before the wrecking yards got sucked into conglomerates like Pick-Your-Part, and later, LKQ, we could get some truly good parts, here in dry-*** California. No trees to drop sap or bird droppings, and they didn't sink into that hard desert playa. How hard is desert playa? My parents bought a house in California, in a rural area outside LA City. Now, they grew up in Minnesota, so this makes it worse, since the soil was nice and soft there. My dad took a post-hole digger to the ground to set posts for a clothesline. It just bounced off the ground. He took a pick to it, and made a small dent, into which he put a CUP of water...and it was still standing in the hole in the morning. It's what the natives used to make their buildings, for good reason.
