Fiberglass cowl induction bonding
I want to add a cowl hood to my truck to my 83 C10 stepside.
Obviously one option is to just buy a bolt on hood, but the down side is limited options. By no means a bad outcome. Options two is to make my own cowl hood from a generic fiberglass scoop, and my steel hood. Obviously a good outcome for putting my stamp on the build. The down side is I have to do the work with questionable quality by using a scoop that may not conform to my hoods curvature. Is it better to use a bolt on scoop or a bond on version. How hard is it for a person with basic body working skills. Like I could fill a pamphlet with my body shop knowledge as long as I get to use a bunch of pictures type of skill set here. I am not afraid of failure, and hell. A scoop is less then a $100, and what will I be in it total for? $250 maybe including buying paint for the hood. As I am trying to expand my skill sets, and learn patience. Experiences, thoughts, ideas? |

Re: Fiberglass cowl induction bonding
I once put a promod scoop on a monza hood..they are generically made ,once I figured what height I wanted,I trimmed it down to that, then using contour gauges, trimmed the bottom of the scoop to fit the hood contours, a couple of screws discreetly placed to hold it , and then bonded the scoop to the hood with fiberglass, smoothed it all out and skimmed it with filler, then primer and paint...that was about 30 yrs ago, and it's still hanging on there

Re: Fiberglass cowl induction bonding
Does it bend or was it just a mere fact of reshaping it?
Do you have any pics |
