Re: Motor Oil Selection

I use and would recommend what they use in corvette's, Ferrari's and other high performance vehicles mobile 1. Like I tell my friends " if it's good enough for a vette it's good enough for OldBlue" I have increased 1 mpg using mobile 1.

Re: Motor Oil Selection

Synthetics cost more, but if you go further between changes, it'll help even out the cost. My neighbors got divorced. She gave me 7 quarts of Mobil 1. SCORE!!!!

Anybody use those Frantz toilet paper oil filters?

Re: Motor Oil Selection

Any quality oil of the type recomended by GM. Change it and the filter at the intervals recomended by GM.

If you just got the truck and don't know if the oil's been changed regularly or it looks nasty cut the interval in half for a few oil changes.

Re: Motor Oil Selection

I use 5w30 but i only use it in the winter. 10w30 is just fine in summer. i like Q and Quaker State (its just what my dad used when i was a kid.) Mobile 1 is definately a good one, but expensive. adding a quart of Lucas to anything will most likely help.

Re: Motor Oil Selection

I use Valvoline, and have been these last 40,000 miles with no problem. I wouldn't suggest using the 15-40, I would use the weight GM would like you to.

Has anyone here ran a Wix filter?

Re: Motor Oil Selection

yeah. 15w40 seems a bit thick. but seeing as its been getting colder and colder (global warming huh?) i liker running as thin of oil as possible. yes i know that can become dangerouse but I've never had anything thicker than 10w30 and i've had no problems.
