It is ludicrous to believe these were only black or argent IMO. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the black ones were the factory e-coat that never got painted.
Granted, i don't know the history of any of these from day one, but most are body color.

Most of your pix, I see "mat black" and perhaps overspray, exception is the red truck. LOL. GM certainly did some oddball things that was not consistent, such as the A/C dash surrounds on either side, and in some cases the glove box doors with "Super" wood grain appliqué. Still, painting something body color that one cannot get to for cleaning and polishing simply does not make much sense, and IMO, looks very weird, because it's two separate 1 foot + items. being black or argent, simply makes them blend and be more inconspicuous. If it were one continuous piece from side/side, that would make sense'ish.

I'm still not convinced

I've learned LONG ago, to never trust anyone's "own" word. Very often people's memory is flawed for many reason, and one can only trust about 30% (give/take) of what one says.

But believe what you wish.

Re: Correct color for sport bumper gravel shields

Body color is what I have found on original paint trucks over the time I've been into these trucks. Many look like just overspray from being installed in factory black primer. The bottom is still primer. I don't need to remember because my involvement with these trucks has been constant. I've seen trucks with them painted argent. It's a very nice touch, I've done that on trucks myself for better detail. Maybe what GM should have done.
