update on the Retrosound Radio

done this a couple times where it wouldnt turn off or change anything,
had to pull fuse to make it reset, one nite shut truck off and must of been between songs, stayed on, battery was dead next morning

Already called retrosound, going to double check the install with my Radio Guy and make sure everything is good

Then ill call Crutchfield and see what the process is, My guess is the radio will be going back

Morning All

had some time yesterday and checked all my connections
everything was good

last nite while driving home listening to the radio, it suddenly went dead

its coming out today and going somewhere

would i recommend this radio, maybe, it all depends on what happens today
also you have to figure downtime on messing with it so much, might try to upgrade on their dime

That is a bit of bad luck. One of the reasons why I fussed so much on my options for a radio. At the end of the day I read more negative reviews about RetroSound than I did about Custom AutoSound.

I was first talking to him about having my GM AM Radio Retrofitted. The because of the time delay / cost - I decided to just buy the Custom AutoSound Slider radio / speakers from him.

The Slider radio is 289.95 but that is without the BlueTooth add-on external module. The USA-740 has it all but the Slider is more "stock looking".

Talked to Crutchfield rep tonite and got a shipping label and the return instructions

now i agree the radio has to go back, but the rep i talked to stated i would have to cut the wiring i just installed or might cause a delay in the exchange

the power connector and speaker connector that stays in the vehicle when the radio is removed

thinking about it overnite

might just call back to verify wiring cut tomorrow, if so, might just request full refund and go somewhere else

FWIW, I put a top of the line Retrosound radio in my '52 truck and a few years later it has issues. The control knobs are virtually unusable as the slightest movement causes the function/selection to go wild. Plus, it is impossible to recall how to use the headunit on a truck that only gets driven maybe once every other month. In other words, it is far too complicated.

My Retrosound on Bluetooth will play the first song of my playlist for about 20 seconds and then it starts spinning through the playlist so fast and never lands on a song. Not sure what is going on with it. Haven't had time to troubleshoot it but I hope it doesn't have to come out of the dash.

Turns out the speed scroll through the playlist was not the Retrosound but something to do with the BT, iPhone, or Spotify. I shut down all three, reconnected the BT and it works. Technology...

Rather than start another thread thought I would ask here. I have a RetroSound D-142 Hermosa radio and am wondering what the front and rear RCA jacks are for. I am ASSUMING (and we all know how well that usually works out) that they are for a amps. But I wanted to confirm it first.

PS: There is nothing in the literature on what they could be used for or any note on them.

Went to retrosound website and looked up the radio. In the description it is stated "Dual RCA pre-outs for external amplifiers"

BadPeanut , the retrosound radio went back to retrosound

Retrosound kept questioning my install, and eventually since they could not explain why i was having issues, they then said it was my hei ignition that was shutting the radio off because of rf inteference

Now i will agree to rf inteference being a faint possibilitie, but that would not explain why the radio would lock up or shut off

Also, im not an audio expert, but couldnt they install a filter to block any possible hei \rf inteference

Side note, the Whole experience with CrutchField was Great, Incredible Customer Service And Response

Thats wierd i have no rf filters on my sytem and im running a HEI, i just installed a hermosa and it seems fine. Knock on wood.

Thanks Richard for confirming that RCA connections are for amps.

Seems strange that don't mention anything about them in the radio installation/owner manual. Don't even have wiring diagram showing how to wire in an amp and speakers. The only diagram is one showing non-amplifier wiring.

I've not been very impressed with my retro sound. When it breaks I'll do to my C-10 what I did in my Trans am. The Memphis hideaway system works great! In the TA I run the factory radio, does nothing but light up when the headlights turn on, and the Memphis hidden unit connects to my phone and sounds great.

Went and looked this up as I was interested. At Amazon that unit does not seem to be available anymore. Going the manufacturers website shows a $0 purchase price. Not sure the company is still around.

Well that sucks, I really enjoy it. I think it was made for a boat, I know there were similar solutions out there. Definitely the way to go though, seems all the head units for these trucks suck.

I'm starting to think I am the only person who has a Retrosound that works just fine. I bought mine off of Amazon for $159, so I assume it is the ultra base model. No amps etc, I just use it for my Sirius Satellite.

Back when I was in high school and had a $2000 stereo in my $200 car I would never have tolerated the sound it produces but for my purposes it is pretty decent. If it dies on me I will probably go to a Gary Tayman conversion.

So far mine has been very good. It is the Hermosa model too. Only complaint I had was the sorta pain getting it put together and into the dash opening. Not hard, just a bigger pain than usual.

I've got a Model Two in my car and it has been trouble free. I would have put one in the truck, but someone cut the dash to slip a din in there.
