Electric Fan Setup

I am doing a 57 chevy pickup with a LS engine. What electric fan and radiator setup is everyone using on a LS? 1 fan or 2 fans? Thanks Steve

I'm using an electric fan but I don't have an LS. There are many different truck configurations and folks might not want to make a bad suggestion. If you don't get any specific answers, this list of search results might help.

champion radiator with top inlet relocated to left side by champion. champion shroud with spal fan. ls3 with 800 miles last summer, so far seems good

I agree. I'm running my 2nd Cooling Components fan in my build. Their 2 speed fans are powerful and quiet (not cheap). They are also shallow. I used one in my 48 with an LT1 engine and now I'm using one in the 53 with an LS1. I used Champion 4 core radiators in both builds.

unless ls motor need some special cooling mojo magic
truk runs a stock replacement desert cooler from champion
with a 16" spal fan and shroud by champion

Thanks for the answers on this. I am just thinking about the amount of space I have from the engine waterpump snout and the face where the radiator mounts. I have 7" to put a radiator and fan. If I run offset fans the waterpump may be between the fans giving added clearance. Thank You. Steve

you may want to look into the 'sidewinder' fan set up if you are worried about room for it its very thin and you can rotate it around to fit your needs - the motor is offset so that part is out of the way puts out a good cfm ---about 2000 i think .

also you may want to look into a salvage yard 2 speed fan from a volvo or a t bird .
high and low speed very good cfm also.

I don't know about the others but with Spal fans of a single size there are differences in cfm for a certain size. You have to sort though their list of a certain size to get the best one for your application. That may not be the cheapest one by any stretch. https://www.spalusa.com/products/fans_acc

Thanks for the info will look into it.. I am going to run whatever fan I have at 2 speeds. There are 2 fan control wires on the ls harness fan 1 and fan 2. One will go through relays to run the fan at low and the another relay to run on high. Steve

some use taurus or volvo fan . going to investigate for my big block $35- $50 used vs $300+ new aftemarket.

55 P/U with the champion radiator as well, had the local metal shop bend up a shroud and offset a 16" fan to clear the water pump snout. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/bci-75068

I think it's a rebranded spal so could have saved a few bucks there.

Keeps my Turbo 6.0 cool with the trans cooler and intercooler in front of the radiator. Moves an impressive amount of air.

My '58 has a 454 with the long water pump set up so there wasn't enough room to mount a fan or shroud in the engine compartment. I ended up mounting the highest cfm Spal pusher fan I could find in front of a Northern Radiator 19" x 28" aluminum crossflow radiator. Even on the hottest days it maintains 190 in slow moving traffic. The fan moves a lot of air but it's kind of loud...

Thanks for the information. I am waiting to hear back from champion on how thick there 3 row radiator with there 16" fan. the snout on my water pump lands between the lower 2 mounting holes of the radiator so that might help. Lots of time to figure it out. Steve

if you decide on a volvo 2 speed fan ---from a salvage yard -make sure you take the shroud AND the relay --the relays are very good and makes the hook up easy .
also look up "the ranger station volvo fan" online -- this is a good reading source on everything you need to know about the 2 speed volvo fan parts and hook up .

Tarus fans are real popular and move some serious air.

The 2000 Cadi DTS I had had two fans that moved some serious air. They were also quite thin front to back and would be good for a cross flow.

hope the info helps 57 fleeside out. hey daze57and mr 48chev taurus and volvo fan boh move los of air some volvo umnbol from shroud will get volvo relay pack as well. if you can save money here and there by buying used you can put what you saved towards another treat for your truck.

How about something like this? I "borrowed" the idea from I think it was Us Radiator? They were selling a cooling module at one point. What I ended using was a Champion s10 V8 swap rad, you have to trim the lower rad support but fits the 55-57. I believe they make an ls outlet option or you can use a Camaro Ls3 water pump to have the outlet on the drivers side (2nd pic on my ls 72 2wd Blazer)

This is the setup I'm running. I let the truck idle for over an hour and it never got above 185 degrees.



But if I had to do it again I like the setup Lt155ruck because I like the setup for dual fans. You can program your computer to turn on a different times since you have it in your computer why not take advantage of it.
