1989 Chevy R/V3500 Regular Cab/Chassis-Cab

Does anyone know anything about the 1989 Chevy "rounded line" regular cab/chassis-cab (R3500 2WD; V3500 4WD)? These were replaced with the GMT400 cab design the next year (becoming the C3500 HD 2WD and K3500 HD 4WD). I actually did see a few of these back then.

The 1989 regular cab/chassis-cab using the 1973-style cab design were quite rare, as most of the sales of that aging design went to Blazers, crew/bonus cabs and Suburbans.

Do any of you actually own an '89 R3500 or V3500 regular cab/chassis-cab?

Yes.

I wouldn't call them rare.

That 1989 GMC with the 6.2 diesel: I wonder if any of these examples were rare even then, regardless of nameplate?

Only rare square body trucks to me are some of the one year trim levels they made like the wrangler.

2 only for '89
135.5 and 159.5, no longer as a 131.5 true pickup, BUT, 164.5 as a crew.

Actually still quite common in the northeast as landscaping trucks, hauling garbage, etc.

Re: 1989 Chevy R/V3500 Regular Cab/Chassis-Cab

I'm pretty familiar with them.

But I'm afraid I've forgotten quite a bit.

The day I left the assembly plant and joined engineering was the day the staff split into the "new C/K" GMT400 group and the "carryover C/K" group.*

There was lots of whispers and intrigue and speculation and choosing sides. My only thought was "please don't send me back to the assembly plant!"

*I had a terrible ear ache and couldn't hear and didn't feel good at all. They must have thought "boy, this new guy is sure a ball of fire".

Re: 1989 Chevy R/V3500 Regular Cab/Chassis-Cab

We used to have model charts like this, as a quick reference to help comprehend all of the permutations.

I wish I still had one for the C/K R/V changeover.
