Mike glad to see you are back.
Hey us AZ guys have problems with rust too... I left a set of heads out on the back porch all winter and they got a little surface rust on them

your cab is just like mine. All good except the bottom 12 inches. Must be a northeast thing. I think I'm going to get that floor with braces. Have you started to fit it yet?

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

No, i've been watching jaros44sr's install http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...210641&page=16

It starts about post #388, he is doing a floor and firewall install for Tri-Pro Automotive (guys that have these parts built). I might not make it over to NJ to pick mine up until mid August, unless I find a good reason for a road trip....

As far as starting to fit... well, i've done a lot of staring at my cab, wondering what in the heck to do with the floor! I'm gonna spray some of it down with my new pressure washer/sand blaster setup and see how much falls off.... pics to follow in two weeks!

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

just got back from 11 day vacation in Germany and France... as you can see I had a fun time on the Autobahn with my rental.... mama didn't like going much faster than that though....

third pic is how train from Paris back to Germany... nothing like a little 195 mph early morning ride!

Got to see a few castles in Bavaria, Beaches of Normandy and Paris... had a great time besides the crappy dollar vs euro conversion!

Flew military hop for $90 round trip for both of us....

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

Now that i'm back it was like Christmas, had a few presents to open from the guy in the brown truck...

Here was my custom made aluminum gas tank that 4 of us had built... There are a few little differences than my plan but overall its nothing that will hurt anything... $340 shipped was the group price, would have been around $400 shipped by myself. Very nice tank though www.boydwelding.com , Dave was a great guy to work with...

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

Had to go install it with some clamps this morning... It will sit a little (1/4") higher once bolted in.... should be about 18 - 19 gallons....

The level represents the bottom of my sport bumper.... I wanted the tank protected behind the reese hitch otherwise I could have added 4 - 5 inches and doubled the capacity...

That's a sweet looking tank, looks like it fits like a glove.

thanks, fits nicely... measure twice and cut once I guess.... It could have been slightly (1/4") wider but I had modified my lower frame lip to hold a poly tank that I was going to use.

Yeah, adding the pump alone would be a fair bit more.

Nice looking tank though, are you doing a flip up door or something in the bed then?

planning on a flip style door in the wood floor, should fall right between the metal strips in the floor... Trying to keep the fabrication easy,

Nice!

Does the place that built it offer built in tank pumps for fuel injection?

Are there baffles in the tank to prevent fuel slosh?

I know, i know...

I did start practicing some welds... decided to finally convert my boat trailer to a flatbed... wasn't getting a boat so why not...huh... welder is only a 135 Millermatic but it did ok... didn't like faster wire speeds though, it started jumping/surging... any ideas?

I might need to move the axle up, or maybe I should have let the back overhang more... oh well, it's 14'8" x 6" so that's big enough for a 2500lbs trailer....I plan on making sides for it in the future... only $300 total investment counting tags/title/wood/steel and a buddy that didn't want his old trailer anymore...

I'm thinkin' the welder is to small for the metal thickness, or supply voltage, dunno. I do know it will be perfect for welding in your new floorpan/cowl

Nice flatbed,BTW

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

aah, the reason for the wire "sputtering" (for lack of a better term) might have been the thickness of the trailer frame?? it worked OK with the wire speed at 50 but not 70, i'm no welding pro so i'll buy that. I was able to "fuse metal" so hopefully the deck doesn't fall off and kill someone!

Coulda bin alot of stuff, dirty metal, not a good ground and more, but if you're worried it won't hold, just drill a 1/4" hole thru the pcs. of metal and plug weld. Turn up your heat for plugs welds, you'll be needing practice at this as well, when you put your floorpan in...

I couldn't figure out what the gauge was in your avatar, till you splained it. At first I thought was your air speed indicator in your helo, but then I realized it was to sloAre you allowed to state your top speed

C'mon Mike....that's only 108mph; that's commuting speed in North Jersey. The fun begins at 250K

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

yeah yeah, I know... mama was getting nervous over 100mph though. I was ready for a little 130+ action but she wasn't.... you know how that goes. I told her that i've been way faster than that in the states on the highway, and now im legal in Germany with a granny beside me!

oh well, I get my kicks in other places that she can't control. How's a 7 ton helicopter, 20 feet off the trees, doing 150+ mph.... at night!
